Bordeaux have rejected a bid from Newcastle for striker Yoan Gouffran, according to reports in France.

The Magpies, who are still searching for a replacement for Demba Ba after he moved to Chelsea earlier this month, are believed to have offered 750,000 euros to the Ligue 1 side for the 26-year-old.

However, Sud Ouest and L'Equipe both report Bordeaux have turned down the offer as they have put a price tag of one million euros on the former France Under-21 international.

Gouffran has scored 10 goals in 22 games for Francis Gillot's side to help them to seventh in the table.

Gouffran, who moved to Bordeaux from Caen in 2008, only has six months left on his contract with the French club.

From what I've seen most Arsenal fans seem to think that thy will definitely be bringing in another DM before the end of the window.

German magazine Kicker claims Schalke are set to sign Lyon's Brazilian winger Michel Bastos, according to ESPN - although the two clubs are yet to agree a few.

Bastos' arrival may be funded by the sale of Lewis Holtby to Tottenham, who may move to White Hart Lane this month despite having agreed to join them in the summer.

Spurs have already had a bid for Holtby turned down, think they offered €2M or something.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is set to make his third signing of the January transfer window as he closes in on a loan deal for former Birmingham City striker Mauro Zarate.

Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic has already made the Argentinian available for transfer and O'Neill is eyeing a loan switch with the option to turn the deal permanent for £6.7m at the end of the season, reports talkSPORT.

Its talksport so a truckload of salt must be taken still would be a good signing if they can pull it off.

Bastos sort of went off the boil a bit didn't he, he was dynamite at one point.

Zarate would be a decent signing for Sunderland, Not a huge goalscorer but could be complimentary alongside Fletcher.

Remember when the Mancs flogged him? They got their usual ludicrously inflated fee. £6m I think FFS.

Was meant to be signing back for Hull City, the fee floated around was about £2m, apparently Cardiff offered him 30 grand a week though.

I remember not that long ago, just after he came back and scored a goal, hearing the commentator say something along the lines of.....how it looked like O'Neil had turned him around, and what an asset he'd go on to be for a bargain price.
