    The problem with trying to get rid of Downing won't be a transfer fee, the sticking point will be his wages. A smaller club, which is where he'll have to end up going, won't be offering the kind of wages we are paying him...
    Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

      but they might offer him a decent long term contract...... Not sure how long he has left on the one he has now.

        Spurs 'ITKs' claiming Ince has agreed a contract with Spurs. I hope they sign him.

          I'd piss myself if he was their replacement for Bale

            I would be happy for him to go anywhere other than us. Imagine the **** we would get if we bought him back for £8mill or so and he flopped

            Hopefully, spuds will pay £10 mill for him, giving us £3 mill towards the transfer pot

              The problem with Downing is his age, he's done okay this season to be fair but he's 28 now and in all honesty we could improve on him. To sell now would be the most profitable time is what I'm trying to get at, in 12 months he'll be 29 and not many sides would be willing to pay £7-8m for him then IMO.

                I wouldn't be surprised if that was Di Maria. They'll probably have a choice of most Madrid outcasts this summer, hopefully they're not in the CL and struggle to get them.

                  Hasn't had a great 2nd half of the season. Spurs scouting department must be non-existent. They just go after every player we do

                    I think Downing will get better with age actually, we have invested a lot of money and time into him, I think we should keep for another season and see how it goes.
                    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

                      I suppose he might age well considering he doesn't rely on pace. We've been cutting our wage bill recently though and I believe Downing is on something like £70-80k a week. For me a player being on that kind of money has to contribute more and be more than what Downing is. I know its not his fault he's on so much he is and for the money we can do better.

                        Downing = fine wine

                        Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
