Barcelona have confirmed payment for Neymar’s £198m buyout clause has been received.

Neymar's world-record transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain had hit a stumbling block after La Liga refused to accept the release clause for the striker, but the Spanish giants have now confirmed receipt of the payment.

A Barcelona statement read: "On Thursday afternoon Neymar's legal representatives visited in person the club's offices and made the payment of 222 million euros in the player's name with regards to the unilateral termination of the contract that united both parties.

"As such, the club will pass on to UEFA the details of the above operation so that they can determine the disciplinary responsibilities that may arise from this case."

I don't think barca will be complaining considering the crazy anount of money they have received, but they will struggle to replace him and their squad is already fairly thin.

I'm not sure 200m is a good deal. What does that make Suarez and Messi worth. Considerably less before they are even amortised.

Purely based on footballing ability, he is worth a hell of a lot more than Pogba and Lukaku. In terms of marketing/image/branding, the guy is off the scale.

I'm not saying that these are as good as Neymar, but say Barca spent the £30-£40m we did on Mane or Salah and they were playing alongside Suarez and Messi, would they really be that much weaker?

Again, my point is less about the quality of the individual, but more about how much you can really improve on Messi and Suarez.

BTW, I’m talking hypothetically, the last I was watching Barca regularly was when Pepe was still there. For those that do watch them regularly, was Neymar that influential, was he much of a game changer while those other two were on the pitch?
