True enough, but what would be the motivation?

CL draw

I remember some poster on the Echo forums called 'confused' posting the full Champions League knockout draw in 2007 prior to both rehearsals and the actual draw and claiming it was fixed via heating/cooling of balls. When it actually came to pass, he deleted his account and that was all we heard of him.

And it would be certain because of a draw? It's CL playoff football, no easy games and not much point in fixing the draw. Bribe the ref instead, cheaper and easier way of getting a result really if it were the case. It's all just very conspiratory without anyone really offering a good explanation of it. I just don't buy it really.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postwho the **** knows? fixing it for a certain team to reach the final perhaps? there's italian football professionals involved you know.

And what would the consequences be when (not if) it was finally exposed?
The fixes take place in how the rules are set and implemented, not in the draws for these competitions.
It's the same as manipulation of the Libor rate. That's a scandal because what has happened is exactly the same as UEFA rigging a draw in the way it's being suggested. And the result? It's been exposed, the institutions concerned have been fined hundreds of millions and individuals will go to prison, their careers ruined.
The world is fixed by those with power but it's a lot more subtle than a rigged public draw based on a conspiracy..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I can buy a conspiracy by underworld criminals more than by 'overworld' elites. There are contacts between the two of course (Berlusconi and the Mafia for instance) and maybe individuals can be corrupted.
The thing is this sort of overt conspiracy tends to get out sooner or later. For everyone who has a motivation to fix something, someone else has a motivation to use it against them, by going public or threatening to. The former may be in a position to stop any revelations and buy off or intimidate the whistleblower/blackmailer for a while but eventually their power fades and they're exposed. Look at Lance Armstrong..

Of course it doesn't.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Posti should add i don't have an opinion on whether it's fixed or not, but the fact that the final 8 could have been more competitive doesn't prove anything one way or the other is all i'm saying.
The suggestion that the practice draw and the real draw are identical is a very strange coincidence. 1 in 1500 is a very low chance really. Yes, if another 1499 UEFA/FIFA/Concacaf/etc. draws are not identical in that way then ok, this just happens to be the time it happens.
There's always someone somewhere claiming this happened. Do we even know for sure it actually did this time?.

And my point is by far the most likely explanation of events is that the claim is wrong. And if it isn't, a conspiracy is still not the next most likely explanation..
