I agree that more often than not, the verdict would go to the defender and result in a free out, but the 'climb' was more of a result of Shorey's attempt to impede Barry IMO.
Most refs would probably give a free out, and most certainly the explanation from the ref that Barry 'hung' in the air is complete twaddle, but if McDermott wants to vent his frustration at anyone, it should probably be his defender's handling of the threat.
