Sneijder would be worth a gamble if we were chasing the title/CL and just needed a bit of creativity to make a difference. When we get close to that scenario I imagine FSG will bend their policy slightly and allow this type of signing to happen.
Until then, no point tbh and as Marcus says, just a pipe dream.
Report: Wesley Sneijder Agrees to Join Tottenham Hotspur From Inter Milan in Januaryby Marcus Kwesi O'Mard on Tue, Dec 25, 2012 at 5:05PM

Many assumed Wesley Sneijder would grace the Premier League one day, but few people, if anyone at all, could have predicted this potential move.
The Dutch playmaker has agreed to contractual terms with Totttenham Hotspur, paving the way for a January exit from Inter Milan. The two clubs must still agree on a transfer fee, but a deal could be imminent.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri broke the news on Twitter on Monday
Tottenham and Inter are believed to be negotiating a transfer fee of around £12million ($19.4 million) for the midfield maestro.
Sneijder, 28, has been frozen out of the Inter Milan team for much of the season because of a contract dispute. He has only appeared in eight games this campaign — the last one coming three months ago.
Signing Sneijder would be nothing short of a coup for Tottenham. The ambitious Premier League club has genuine hopes of achieving a top-four finish, which would earn a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Adding a player of Sneijder’s quality would advance that cause, as he can create and finish scoring chances from a number of advanced positions.
The reported fee would represent a significant discount as well. Inter reportedly valued Sneijder at £35 million ($56 million) as recently as last summer.
Less than three years ago, Sneijder was a leading contender to win the FIFA Ballon D’or award. He powered Inter Milan to the Champions League title in 2010 and lead the Netherlands to the final of the FIFA World Cup later that summer.
He’s been the subject of a number of transfer rumors over the last 18 months. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea FC, Real Madrid, Anzhi Makhachkala and, most recently, Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with the Dutch star.
Sneijder is still considered a world-class player who is capable of unlocking the tightest defenses in world soccer. Tottenham watched in agony during Luka Modric’s protracted move to Real Madrid last summer. Should Sneijder fill the boots of the departed Croatian star, those same fans will rejoice at the holiday miracle of 2012.

The gap between Spurs & us may be getting bigger. If they get Sneijder & he settles quickly & holtby hits the ground running next season

I don't think this signing would indicate that, I find it hard to believe it could happen as sneijder is on 200k apparently, so even if he slashes his demands by half I don't think they can afford him as they supposedly have a very tight wage structure. Even if it did sneijder is past his best, at 29-30 he could turn out to be Joe Cole mk II. Furthermore it doesn't make sense as they just agreed a deal for holtby, a similar but less pacey younger player.
I'm glad Liverpool aren't in for wes, he is not what we need ATM, our priorities are in other positions!

I wonder where they are getting the money from? Only last year they couldn't afford Adebayor's wages but they found a way. Sneijder's wages will easily be £50k-£100k more than anyone else at the club.

Spurs also have very sensible transfer strategy, signing young or cheap players when they can, i.e. Holtby, Van der Vaart, Bale, Modric. Not many gambles really and high resale value.
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Be interesting to see how they adapt if Bale leaves in the summer. They rely on him and Lennon, both really good on the counter attack and Bale's got 8/9 league goals this year.
Dembele looks class but he's not an improvement on Modric and Dempsey/Sigurdsson seem to be just decent squad players at the moment.
EDIT: I hope they get priced out of moves for Willian and Damiao
Personally i think they'll run into problems trying to agree wages with Willian & Damiao just as they did with Moutinho
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

Really worrying coz their wage structure was significantly lower than ours.
Signing a player like Sneijder can influence how other top players see Spurs going forward.
Tottenham, another club doing the things we should be doing.
I swear someone has cursed us.
We're doing very similar things to Spurs but they're a few years ahead if us in terms of squad development and whilst Sneijder is a good player I am not sure he's what we need.
