Personally, I think the Sneijder and Coutinho situation reminds me of the Demspey and Sturridge saga back in the summer. Rodgers clearly wanted Dempsey but the owners weren't prepared to sanction a substantial fee for him due to his age. However, they were prepared to pay £15m for Sturridge (he was 22 at the time) but Rodgers only wanted him on loan. Fast forward 6 months and we have a similar situation today imo. Rodgers wants to add Sneijder, but the owners are reluctant to meet his wage demands given his age. They don't mind providing money for Coutinho (20 years of age) though having bid £8m for him. What doesn't add up is why offer £8m when they must have known Villa offered more but their bid was also rejected. The next 11 days is going to be interesting.

The wage demand issue is nothing to do with age. I don't see the link personally.

The biggest mystery about all this, is that the only clubs being mentioned are Gala and LFC, are we to believe these are his only options ?

If they are, it's very strange imo, say what we like about the huge wages he's supposedly on being off putting, it's never bothered clubs before, and if we are able to sort a deal then what's to stop other clubs ?

OK, he's on €90,000 a week after tax, that's £75,500. At 45% tax (confirmed by red polo) that's £137,000 after tax. We think Luis is on £100,000 before tax...the after tax difference on the £37,000 is just over £20,000 a week...

So if he's willing to take a £20k a week take home pay drop (and all the numbers are right) we can pay £100k a week.

To be honest I couldn't care less if it was only Us and Galatasary involved

            Think Suarez.

He's class and if United/City/Chelsea got involved we'd have no chance.

Aren't Anzhi and a German club also interested?

Wesley Sneijder 'close' to leaving Internazionale, says club president

                  • Galatasaray have bid €10m for Sneijder's services
                  • Dutch playermaker hasn't played since September

                  Agencies
                  guardian.co.uk, Sunday 20 January 2013 16.10 GMT

Internazionale's president Massimo Moratti said he has cleared the air with Wesley Sneijder on Sunday as the midfielder prepared to finalise a move to Galatasaray.

The 28-year-old Dutch international has been holding talks with the Turkish giants since Moratti accepted a €10m bid for his services two weeks ago.

Sneijder was reported to be upset when Moratti urged a "professional" decision over his future, one that would bring an unpleasant contract dispute to a close, while ending the player's three-and-a-half-year association with the Serie A club.

Moratti has not closed the door on Sneijder, who won the treble in 2010, but revealed the Dutchman could join Galatasaray in the next few days.

He told inter.it "I met Sneijder. I wanted to have a chat with him, I thought we needed to. Have we made peace? I don't think there was ever a war in the first place, and certainly not with me personally. Did we chat to see if we were all moving in the same direction? Which one? It's a surprise ... Is he close to a move to Galatasaray? Yes, I think so."

Sneijder has not featured for Inter since September after publicly rejecting a request to take a €2m pay cut on his annual salary, but head coach Andrea Stramaccioni insists his absence from the first team has been solely a tactical decision.

Following his conversation with Moratti, Sneijder appeared ready to concede his successful career at the San Siro is coming to end. "I spoke a lot with president Moratti because we have a good relationship, we had a good talk, nothing more than that. He said that it's looking like I'll be off to Galatasaray but there's still a slim chance I could stay? What the president said is exactly right.

"The Inter fans expect me to stay? Inter fans are the best around, I've won everything here and I'm happy here." said Sneijder. "Now I don't know whether I'll be saying, 'I am happy here' or 'I was happy here'. One of two things could happen, we'll see."

Although Gala are in the CL thats only a handful of games a season where as he will have to play in the turkish league all year round. The prem would be much better imo and a prem club without cl fooball is still better than a turkish club with cl football imo

I think the "One or two things could happen" quote only suggests that he will either stay or go. Not that we will be at Gala or Inter.

We will defiantly make a bid, if he rejects it then he rejects it. All the signs at the minute point to that we are trying to sign him. (Rodgers asking for more experience, The Rodgers no comment, Gerrard this morning)

I think there will be more in this yet.

Think United is a no go, Van Persie and himself hate each other and I know which one I'd keep happy.

How defiant should we be when we're making this bid?

Sums it all up if he goes to Turkey. He was motivated by money.
