    Boo.

Data without analysis is just noise.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

One thing it tells us is that footballers aren't very good at connecting their own interests with those of others. In other words, they're much like everybody else.

I just think it's interesting. They clearly have an insight and it seems a fair few take drugs - and therefore are getting away with it. Makes you wonder about Rio Ferdinand.

Yeah, but we knew all that really. It's not hard evidence. And it's only 5% who 'agree strongly' which to me indicates anything more than hearsay.

Although it could be just that 'agree strongly' is actually taken to mean 'know it's widespread' while 'agree' just means 'know some do it'. It's not clear which the respondents used to answer the question and the method doesn't bother to clarify whether they even explained what was meant by the five point scale in the first place (making the mistaken assumption that being able to speak English means the options are unambiguous and answers universal).

So really it just adds to all the rumours we already know. And logic alone suggests it happens anyway, so I don't think we've learned anything except that FourFourTwo have adopted a flawed approach to data collection which is further let down by the lack of analysis.

I'm available to make up the shortfall on a consultancy basis, at my normal daily rate.

Nah, I'm all for it. It gives me a chance to lambast intelligent, perceptive people (mainly Shaggy ) for taking polls too much at face value.
