Absolutely ridiculous decision but not too surprising as Chairmen of newly promoted to the Premier League teams seem to think their sides should be up battling for Europe rather than just looking for safety in their first season.

No manager of a newly promoted team should be sacked in their first season in the Premiership, even if they end up getting relegated...

First two seasons in the PL should be abour survival nothing more really, if you've got someone there who's delivering that leave them to get on with it, the change of manager could and most likely will cause more issues than it solves.

Adkins had taken Southampton from 22nd in League One to 15th in the Premier League within two-and-a-half years.

And yet they sack him.

An amazing effort really and the goal difference they have over the teams below is probably worth an extra point to them as well.

Strange decision. But.

It's the right of Southampton to make it. If Adkins was doing miracles and Man Utd came in for him, and asked him to be boss, he'd be off in a flash. So if Southampton feel a new man can do a better job, fair play to them.

Personally, I think it's foolish. They're in good form for a lower placed team and rocking the boat could have a negative effect. But it's up to them. The crap about loyalty is just bull****. There is none from either party, just odd exceptions.

I jest of course, but it was up for renewal soon and maybe he was asking for ridiculous amounts.

It is possible, it appears they'd been lining this ex Espanyol manager up for a while though. I think they just expect to be doing better than they are.
