"Gordon Taylor's position as chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association is secure, despite tabloid reports about his gambling, and a statement to that effect will be made later today by the organisation."

He should be sacked for abusing client confidentiality, not any gambling addiction.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Betting £4m on PL matches and an England international, doesn't that cause a conflict. The people playing in those games are members of a Union he is in charge of. It should be illegal in their rules, not sure why it isn't....probably because he likes to bet on them!

Agree with Neil. Should be sacked for leaking contract information of players like Suarez

I've said it time and again.

It potentially does imo. He's got close relationships with some guys that he's betting on or against. Footballers can't bet on any match can they?

I think it does because he's representing players which have a massive bearing on the result of the bets that he makes.

That's not a conflict of interest.

Footballers are not allowed to bet because they can directly influence the outcomes of games by playing in them. Gordon, despite his many talents, does not have a premier league contract, so he can not directly influence results.

Yeah I understand that. But Andros Townsend was banned for betting on games that he wasn't even playing in so couldn't directly influence. Appreciate the PFA work to a dfferent set of rules to the FA. I think the FA rules prohibit betting in games that are in the same competition as which your current team and loan teams play in. Pretty wide spectrum covered.

The rules cover players betting on any competition the player has played in.

Gordon Taylor does not play football, so there is no conflict.

Right - I'm off to do something more interesting.

Ofcourse there is a conflict of interest. He is in a position of power and therefore he needs certain matches to result in a positive outcome for him. So therefore if he can influence disciplinary proceedings in anyway e.g a teams star player (suarez) getting banned for certain games to suit him then that's a conflict of interest

PFA chairman Gordon Taylor enjoys £2million pay rise to MORE than Premier League stars' average wage

PFA boss Gordon Taylor has enjoyed a bumper pay rise of almost £2million, it has been reported.

It is understood the former Bolton Wanderers player earned almost £3.4million in pay and benefits in 2014 - more than the average wage of a Premier League footballer.

The figures came to light in accounts filed at the Certification Office which monitors trade union finances.

It represents a rise of 140 per cent on his 2013 earnings which stood at £1.4million.

It means Taylor, 70, who has been in charge of the PFA for 34 years, earned more than the average £2.2million wage of of a professional in the top flight.

Conservative MP Nigel Adams, of the Commons culture, media and sport committee hit out at the pay deal.

“It proves how ludicrous the money washing around in football is, when the guy who is meant to be sticking up for the players’ rights is on the sort of salary that a Premier League striker is earning,” he said.

“It is an extraordinary salary for anyone, let alone the head of a union.”
Taylor has declined to comment on his wages.
