Real Madrid will sell striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer according to general manager Jose Angel Sanchez.

The Argentine, 25, has scored 14 times this season while vying with Karim Benzema for the lead role up front, but it seems a six-year spell at the Bernebeu is now nearing its end.

Higuain's departure would likely see Real enter the market for some high-profile replacements, with Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Tottenham's Gareth Bale said to be at the top of their shopping list.

L'Equipe reports Sanchez as saying that while Higuain is heading for the exit, Benzema is likely to stay.

"In a great club like real, we believe we need two number nines of a high level," says Sanchez.

"We have Benzema and Higuain, Higuain will leave, Benzema will stay and two others will come."

Higuain, who joined Real from River Plate in 2007, was linked with Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in the summer 2012 transfer window.

Higuain is only 25? Wow. I thought he was older than that. If I were Rodgers I'd get the situation with Suarez sorted and maybe make a move for Higuain if Suarez wants out. No guarantee he will want to come to us obviously

Never really know what to make of him, his goalscoring record is pretty awesome but in some of the biggest games like the other night he looks woefully out of his depth.

I think he's a little overrated, for me Benzema is a much better player.

Barcelona are preparing a £35m offer for Chelsea's Brazilian defender David Luiz, 25, but the Stamford Bridge club will ask for £40m.

Real Madrid could allow as many as eight players, including Argentina winger Angel Di Maria, 25, and striker Gonzalo Higuain, 25, to leave the Bernabeu this summer in a move that will take £25m off the club's wage bill. Only 11 players are certain of their futures at Real.

Higuain and Alexis Sanchez are two players who still leave me scratching my head. They're always woeful, yet the former especially has a good goalscoring record.

Di Maria will probably go to Chelsea if/when Mourinho goes there.

However, City sporting director Txiki Begiristain has held talks with Malaga over a deal and is keen to bring the Spain international to Eastlands.
Malaga sporting director Armando Mario Husillos said: 'We have [had discussions] with regard to some of our players that may be of interest to Txiki Begiristain, their sporting director.'

City are looking to bring in five players this window with Shakhtar midfielder Fernandinho also among their targets. Yet they will also sell to balance the books.
Winger Scott Sinclair is wanted on loan by Everton, Swansea and Aston Villa.

I thought Sanchez was supposed to be stellar? Everyone was creaming themselves at the prospect of him joining Liverpool.

He looked electric at Udinese. Strange how average he looks at Barca. I'm certain he's better than he's shown there. Look at Fabregas - always the star at Arsenal, goes to Barca and he's just another player.

You wonder if maybe the style of football just doesn't suit his game at Barca, certainly wouldn't mind him at Anfield

I don't think its surprising really, going to Barcelona and shining is a hard thing to do when you're surrounded by Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. The style of play must be frustrating for a player like Sanchez as well as you said he was electric at Udinese but Barcelona play a much slower tempo and allow teams to get men behind the ball.
