Riches to Rags: Millionaire footballers who lose everything
My parents total income per year was less than a third of what he earnt in a week. Yet they managed to bring up five kids, send us all to uni etc and never managed to bankrupt themselves. Some of these ****ers should really look at Assou-Ekkoto on how to live their lives.
I disagree, the players or their agents should be doing that. Nothing to do with the clubs or the league.
Agree with both. They get a huge wage and should they need financial advice then they should pay for it themselves. If they choose not to and lose the lot then at least the money's back in circulation.
They must live in a made world full of leeches, hangers on, moneygrabbers. Its a billion pound industry whats the problem with a bit of help. If one of our favourite players tried to do what Hendrie done and had died, would we saying the same? He tried to invest he just had bad advice.

What about the money he pissed away on extravagent cars, lifestyle etc? And yes I personally would have the same views if it was a Liverpool player - why is it any different? **** them if they can't manage their own lives and money. Who offers me and every other person who isn't a footballer? And this appears to be he own doing anyway. Investments go wrong all the time - it's up to you how you manage your own risk. He could have gone to an IFA or a wealth Manager if he was interested in investing his money. If he was dumb enough invest the majority of his equity and piss the rest away on cars etc, then he only has himself to blame. As I said, idiots like him really could learn a life lesson from Assou-Ekotto

I think financial planning should be part of the curriculum at school. At least a couple of lessons in the final year. We had General Studies. What was the point in it? Put some life skills lessons in there and everyone benefits.
So many people end up in a mess. Not just footballers.

Is a normal memner of the public who has money issues an idiot. We can't possibly understand the world he lives in. An IFA? Yeah, great idea. As Liverpool says he must have been surrounded by leeches and there must be people queueing up to offer him 'advice' on how to spend his wealth

Not at all. Feel free to twist I have said . Hendrie has said he spent lavishly - who's ****ing fault is that?
There are things beyond people's control that lead to them running into financial difficulties, you feel sorry for those. Banks for example are partially (but not totally) to blame for allowing people to get high mortgages for properties the customers could not really afford. So when the market crashed, mortgage rates went up and the number repossesions went through the roof etc etc.
It's those who lose control who only have themselves to blame and there is plenty of people. I will give you an example: I purchased a repossesed property. The person who lived in the property I purchased had money troubles for what apppeared to be over a year. He had plenty of opportunities to sell his property and I know this as I found various letters. I also found a reciept for a Louis Vutton item that had been purchased in his name for well over a £1000 just a month before the flat was repossesed. So even though he was in financial difficulties he was still spending £1000's of pounds. Does that make him an idiot?
I'm sorry - I do not feel sorry for any footballer who runs into money issues. There is plenty of heavily regulated Wealth Managers out there who specialise in creating investment portfolio's for high net worth individuals such as footballers. If Hendrie trusted his mate's Tom, Dick and dirty Harry to invest his money, then he is a eejit and only has himself to blame
it doesnt happen to people like us, cos we dont go from earning millions to nothing, where as these people do. Maybe clubs could pay them over 20-30 years instead of a huge injection of cash to **** all

Interesting idea but impossible to implement as a player could leave a club in 6 months and end up playing for multiple clubs
