A LEADING bookmaker has dramatically cut Alex Ferguson’s odds of becoming the next Republic of Ireland manager following a flood of support this morning.
“We laid some large bets on Sir Alex Ferguson at 66/1 on Friday morning and the cut him into 33/1. The support continued to come and we were forced to cut him again, into 20/1,” said Leon Blanche, of Boylesports.
The long-time favourite to replace Giovanni Trapattoni has been Martin O’Neill. Although he remains odds on, now at 4/5, this represents a massive drift having been as short at one point as 1/10.
Mick McCarthy is available at 7/2 to reunite with the boys in green.
Noel King, who has been appointed as interim Ireland manager for the forthcoming matches against Germany and Kazakhstan is on offer at 10/1 whilst former captain, Roy Keane can be backed at 18/1.
The headline should probably read "Bookmaker slashes odds on Fergie for Ireland job in order to increase traffic to their website".That rug really tied the room together.

WHILE NOEL KING held his first press conference as Ireland’s caretaker manager yesterday, two men are currently busy working on finding a new permanent boss.
Former international Ray Houghton and FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter have been tasked with leading the search for Giovanni Trapattoni’s replacement with chief executive John Delaney insisting there is no rush to find the right man.
King takes charge for the final two World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Kazakhstan later this month and took the opportunity to bring the likes of Andy Reid and Darron Gibson back into the fold with yesterday’s squad announcement.
That rug really tied the room together.
