Liverpool capture Simon Mignolet from Sunderland

    Published 12 minutes ago

Simon Mignolet has become Liverpool’s latest signing in an ambitious summer spending spree, as Brendan Rodgers considers an audacious swoop for Gerard Deulofeu, the Barcelona forward.

Mignolet completed his £9 million transfer from Sunderland yesterday after passing a routine medical examination and finalising personal terms on a five-year contract.

The Belgium goalkeeper is Rodgers’s fourth signing in the past month after the acquisitions of Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Kolo Touré. Rodgers is now considering a move for Deulofeu, who scored 18 goals in 33 appearances for Barcelona B in the Spanish second division last season.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Spain, but is aware that his immediate prospects of playing first-team football are slim at the Nou Camp.

Deulofeu is understood to be keen to join a club who prioritise passing football in the event that he has to leave Barcelona, and fits the profile of player that Rodgers is keen to attract to Anfield.

Liverpool would be likely to face strong competition for Deulofeu if they decide to make a move for the teenager, but the presence of Alberto, with whom he enjoyed a productive partnership for Barcelona B, could be a trump card.

Liverpool are optimistic that a deal can be struck with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has been warned by his club that he faces a fine after failing to return to pre-season training.

Deulofeu us a very, very big striking talent from what I understand.

He and Romero had a wonderful partnership at Barcelona B. From what I've heard he's ready for the big stage too.

Spuds are in for him as well, what a surprise

Tottenham and Liverpool are vying to sign Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu, 19, on loan.
The talented wideman is among Barcelona's most promising prospects, even by recent standards.

The arrival of Brazil international Neymar, however, has pushed him further down the Spanish champions' pecking order, and he could therefore benefit from a loan move.

No way Barca will be letting him go, supposedly a real top talent and from the bits I've seen looks It as well.

Interesting move. He'll need to watch his weight, but good to see Brendan being allowed to break from policy and invest in experience. Expect the FA to attempt to veto this move due to expected problems obtaining work visa.

Hopefully we get Cyrano and Obelix rolled into one, and while we're signing mates Asterix can come as well.

We won't get him, he is a foreigner in Moscow, the Americans will try to extradite him.

He their next big thing isn't he? THE best youth player they have I believe. They'd be loathe to let him escape. It's not impossible, but I'd say this would be a huge coup if we pulled it off.

Could see a FCB agreeing to a loan deal. He'd get more playing time at Spurs coz they've got **** up front

It is a chance that he will leave IMO. Messi and Neymar means that it is only one attacking place left the next five plus years.

He would of course cost a lot of money because all the big clubs would be after him.
