Interesting appointment for Boro
Aitor Karanka: Boro poised to name ex-Real Madrid assistant as new manager
Former Real Madrid assistant Aitor Karanaka is increasingly likely to be named as the new manager of Middlesbrough FC
Aitor Karanka looks increasingly likely to be appointed Boro boss at some point today.
The Teesside rumour mill has gone into overdrive this afternoon with rumours that a major backroom shuffle is underway.
The Gazette understands that Steve Gibson is close to confirming the identity of Tony Mowbray's replacement.
Karanka, formerly Jose Mourinho's assistant at Real Madrid, has been a front runner for the position since Mowbray was sacked three weeks ago.
Talks have taken place with the 40-year-old Spaniard, who has also been strongly linked with the vacancy at Crystal Palace.
With Karanka expected to bring in his own backroom team, it's possible first team coach Mark Proctor and goalkeeping coach Stephen Pears could leave the club.
The future of caretaker manager Mark Venus is uncertain.

Is anybody watching Bradford verus Coventry? I know, form a queue. But still, it's 3-2 to Coventry at half time and it has been hilarious to watch. I've seen a better quality of football on a Sunday in a park in Barnsley.
Bradford's first goal is classic route one; the big centre forward beats the onrushing keeper to the ball, the defender swings his foot so hard at a clearance that both feet leave the ground in a spin. He misses the ball completely, the next defender turns away from the attacking player following up as he scuffs it under a dangled foot.

FOOTBALL- Zola quits at Watford
Watford head coach Gianfranco Zola resigns with immediate effect.
"This decision has not been made quickly," said Zola in a statement on the Watford website. "I must place Watford Football Club first in my thoughts and it is for this reason that I have taken my action.
"I feel it is in the best interests of the team that somebody new is given the chance to bring the success which we have all hoped for and worked very hard for."
Championship side Watford, who lost in the play-offs last season after finishing third, are 13th in the table and have failed to win in nine matches.
