One thing not to be overlooked with this deal is that despite the transfer fee being over inflated according to some, his wage if reports are to be believed is £45k a week which would put him as one of the lowest earners of our strongest starting line up. Not bad business if we can pull this off

Reds to step up Diego Costa pursuit
5 Aug 2013 10:03
Reds cool on left back Lorenzo Melgarejo
LIVERPOOL will step up their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa this week but Brendan Rodgers has shelved plans to sign Benfica left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo.
The Reds tabled a bid of £21.8million for Costa last week and hope Atletico will grant them permission to hold talks with the Brazil international.
Costa, who played for Atletico against Nacional in the final friendly of their tour of South America yesterday, has already indicated he's keen on making the move to Anfield.
However, Melgarejo won't be signing for Liverpool. The Reds had agreed a season-long loan deal in principle with a view to a permanent transfer next summer and were expected to apply for a work permit.
But Rodgers' interest in the Paraguayan defender has cooled and he intends to look elsewhere for left-back cover. Granada'sGuilherme Siqueira and Valencia's Aly Cissokho are under consideration.

Think he might be a good fit for the league though. Looks like a £10m type player to me, not a £20m+ one.
Says more about the lack of quality players available in the market right now.

Reading between the lines it's been much more difficult to attract top players than we might have thought. I'd say we've sounded out lots of other targets but agents have hinted they didn't want to move to us.
I read an article about Costa where he said the most important thing was feeling wanted by the manager and that was more important than moving to a club in the Champions League.
I'm putting two and two together here but I think that's part of the reason we're in for him, we know he's more than happy to come here. It seems lots of other players aren't

As I posted earlier you have to take into account his wage, we are supposedly trebling it to £45k a week which would still make him one of our lowest earners.Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostThe fee mentiioned seems very steep

What makes you think he's only worth £10m?Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostThe fee mentiioned seems very steep

Spurs have just paid £17m for Paulinho who's never even played in Europe.
City have spent £35.2m on Fernandinho, a decent if not great 28 year old whose only played in Brazil and the Ukrainian league.
We of course signed Downing and Henderson for close to the reported £20m odd fee.
Looks about right to me.
