Atletico are superb technically. A lot of folks have them as this carthorse of a team, like 10 Dirk Kuyts plus a goalkeeper, but their use of the ball was faster, accurate, and more clinical than Barcelona when they had it.

i said ages ago, round xmas time, that someone on revista la liga (can't remember who) was saying that messi had basically gone into cruise mode for the world cup.

along the lines of him thinking - i've given everything to barca so far, won everything with barca, but never really done anything big on the international stage cause i'm always ****ed.

apparently when he got injured early on in the season it was a bit of scare and he was out longer than he needed to be to make sure he didn't rush it back and now he's just playing within himself so that he can go to the world cup 100%

from messi's selfish point of view it's understandable i suppose. If he goes to the world cup, tears it up and wins it - then thats it, he's the greatest of all time with no question marks.

the one thing against him - for pele/maradona has always been the "he's never won/performed at the world cup"
