      Unbelievable

Kind of is though. Their national unrest is because of the Government wanting to spend money on World Cup and Olympics. Hardly fair to expect Fifa to keep fans safe. Even if they are a bunch of **** houses.
        *Except Michael, who died.

Surely due diligence on safety aspects and risks should be a key component of awarding the WC to a particular venue ?

FIFA washing their hands of it is wrong IMO and should be involved to ensure "their" tournament is a safe as possible not just sloping shoulders and passing the buck; they should be working together on this.

too right its up to fifa to sort out...

they should recruit an army of bloodthirsty mercenaries and send them into the favelas and go house to house, no prisoners.

that'll learn 'em good and proper
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

FIFA should be looking at infrastructure before awarding the location, not just who provided the fattest brown envelope. They're happy to make demands for the construction of stadia, but they should also be assisting in the safety of the fans attending. Sure, the remit is with Brazil themselves, but even something as simple as a 'call for calm for what will be the best World Cup ever and some other PR jargon' would be better than distancing themselves completely.

Just a quick question; is there an interest in a seperate WC 2014 sub forum during the event? And is there an interest in doing the group stage threads like I did last time?

Did they add something, or was it just nice to have? It was quite a bit of work, so only want to do them if there is an interest in it

I think the sub-forum is a good idea. My memory is rubbish, so I can't really remember the threads, but I think it would work. Keeps the event out of the general stuff and there isn't one long thread that is hard to keep tabs on.

I'm hoping to run a betting syndicate from work, so on a purely selfish point of view, it will create an electronic record that can be copied and pasted quite easily.

FIFA should consider these things when choosing the host country, if they do that properly then the host would have control over such issues and there should be no major concerns. The fact these issues are being discussed imo suggests that FIFA haven't done their job properly. Also with policy they seem to have adopted for selecting hosts i think these types of issue will come up again and again, but I am sure FIFA won't take any of the blame.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Last time there was a thead for each group and then for each knockout round wasn't there? I thought it was good to have everything split up like that, keeping track discussions in a single WC thread would be a nightmare.

Cool, I think we will look in to that if it's a general consensus

yeah the sub forum broke down was good

iirc did we have threads for each group?

then opening post in each thread shows the fixtures/times/tv channel and then updated table

and then after that have four posts - one for each team with flag/squad list and some intersting facts and players to watch and maybe even their odds.

then after that it can be general discussion for each group match

i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

That's the basic structure we are going for right now

If anyone have time to contribute with some stats/facts they are more than welcome to collect them and Alex and I will fit them in. Right now we are doing the above except for odds and player to watch, the later might come when there is some easily c/p stuff around
