Gerrard for me, but doubt Rodgers will think the same.

Think if we signed Hughes we could potentially loan him to a lower premier league club to get some experience, I'm sure there would be people who would be interested.

Definitely a loan move if we signed him. Only seen Hughes few times and he did look decent... massive step up though & price will probably be ridiculous.

We should have done the same with Ilori. I'm not sure why we don't loan youngsters back to their clubs when we sign them

He looked out of his depth last night. Pointless playing in an U21 game when he was playing in the top flight in Portugal.

I've seen a few people criticise our youth policy/academy. I think we stunt player development in some cases really. He was never going to get in the 1st team this season. I'm not sure why we chased him so hard in the summer. Would have been logical if we were desperate for him to do a deal and then loan him straight out or back to Sporting. Think Chelsea do it a lot

It is a massive step up, rather he'd find his feet at another club and not here though if we're pushing for fourth

Ilori is a strange one. Don't know why we've spent the cash only for him to sit in the U21s. A loan would do him good.

Was it something like £6m we paid for him? Should really have a better plan for him in terms of progression rather than just playing in the U21s

we take them cos we dont want to miss out on a potentially great player, but then we bore them to death and train all their natural gifted talent out of them.
our academy/reserve system is ****. we might bang in a few against other youth teams but these lads are not stepping up to the next level from within the club.

the answer is to send them out and get them regular first team football. maybe a year abroad to hone technical skills, then another year in the english lower leagues to toughen them up a bit.

too many prospects just kicking tennis balls about and not out there in the real world of wet and windy winter football.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Yeah it's quite a worrying issue for me. Can blame it on the reserve system or whatever. But buying Sakho and Ilori the club knew that Ilori wouldn't play this season. A buy and loan back deal is what should have been done. As it is, it's probably £6m down the pan. We're so **** at sending our youngsters out on loan

Might be a bad example, but Andros Townsend went on loads of loans. Proper competitive football and he looks the real deal.

and if ilori cost us 6m to have him keep the tea lady company, we could have signed and loaned him back for maybe 3-4m. or buy him for 6m and then further his development somewhere else. the change of scenery takes young lads out of their comfort zone and hopefully will make them man up a little.
they should be more battle ready when they are asked to wear a Liverpool shirt. too many sub standard players are getting a chance to wear that shirt and this boils my piss.
