Real Madrid defender Pepe accused clásico hero Lionel Messi of "sh*****g himself" during Barcelona's 4-3 win at the Bernabeu.

The pair were spotted on camera covering their mouths while engaging in conversation and, according to Catalan daily Sport, the Portugal centre-back was accusing the Argentine star of being scared of playing him.

"Against me you always s*** yourself," said Pepe, prompting the incredulous reply from Messi:

"What are you talking about? I always score against you!"

The Barca forward had the last laugh, bagging a hat-trick as the Catalans won 4-3 and pulled themselves to within a point of joint leaders Atletico and Real Madrid.

Pepe and Lionel Messi had an interesting exchange in the latter stages of el Clásico on Sunday night. With the score still tied at 3-3, the Brazilian-born Portugal defender decided to engage in a bit of attempted mental disintegration, which backfired spectacularly if lip-reading reports are to be believed.

Quipped Pepe:

Against me you always **** yourself.

And Messi’s retort:

What are you talking about? I always score against you. It’s thanks to me you end up in pictures after the game.

Messi’s hat-trick, which sealed the 4-3 victory at the Bernabéu, certainly back up his cutting response. Pepe, on the other hand, was walked all over in more ways than one.

Both players covered their hands with their mouths, so I’m not entirely sure how one can be so confident of what was actually said, but it’s a pretty cool line regardless.
