    Mohamed Salah

Liverpool's pursuit of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah seems to be reaching its climactic point after his European representative was spotted at Anfield on Saturday.

In-demand: Basle's Mohamed Salah has attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United

Salah has been grabbing headlines with Swiss side Basle for the past 12 months and his performances in the Champions League against Chelsea, in particular, this season have made him one of the hottest properties of the January window.

Basle are willing to sell the 21-year-old who has been dubbed 'the Egyptian Messi' for around £15million. He can play anywhere across the front line, is technically good and has blistering pace. He has scored six goals in 22 games for Basle this season and 17 in 26 internationals for his country.

Sportsmail revealed Liverpool's interest in September and it follows interest from Tottenham who have maintained a watching brief.

    Decent player Salah.

He'd be an upgrade on anything we have out wide.
The times they are a changin'.

Love if we signed Salah. Incredibly talented and has that unpredictable factor like Suarez. Positive player.. always goes forward, runs at players, bundles of pace and trickery. Would be exciting signing if it happened.

Wow if we sign Salah in Jan and a CM we would definitely go up another level. Would be a fantastic signing.

Based on just a few champions league games and highlight reals I've seen of him, I really hope that the rumours are false and that we don't go in for Salah.

He basically looks like a (slightly) more productive Raheem Sterling. Seems to be beat his man more with luck than skill a lot of the time and seems to have a heavy first touch sometimes. Doesn't look significantly better than what we have in the squad at the moment (not sure he's even better than Assaidi tbh).

I don't know why we keep doing this. Can someone tell FSG that most of the time when you buy cheap, you but twice. I guess this is the down side of the Sturridge/Coutinho transfer window jackpot. They seem to think that kind of outcome happens often when you penny pinch.

We need proven quality and I understand why this wasn't easy to obtain in the summer (with potential players not knowing quite what we were about), but as it stands we are second in the league. If we hold our nerve and the recent injuries don't affect us too badly, then there's a fair chance that by the time the window opens we'll still be in the top four which surely would be a selling point. Add to this that a fair number of clubs would already be eliminated from the champions league anyway, then it's not hard to imagine us attracting some top tallent. There's also those who maybe a bit unsettled at their clubs and are getting a bit frustrated with lack of playing time in a World Cup year (Shaqiri, Pastore etc. spring to mind).

If we simply MUST shop in the bargain basement and we are defo looking for a wide forward/attacking mid, then I quite like the look of Alexandru Maxim.

Bloody hell mate those are crazy statements. He's a wee bit raw alright but bags of ability there.

Each to his own. Just calling it as I see it. But then again I didn't want Costa either (look at him now) so what do I know?

                    I have to agree.

The positive is he is left footed player and we could use one but I haven't seen much in his game to think that he can cut it at PL level.

                    Time will tell I suppose.

Then you'll need Qadr to cover for him.
