I'm not sure I think that England had alot of forwards at the time and his style was difficult to accommodate. Even though it's not that long ago international football seemed different then. Robbie Fowler only got 26 international caps and had scored 50 PL goals and about 70 career goals by the time he made his England debut, which seems remarkable now
