Lord Ouseley: Football would 'collapse' if all texts revealed

Football would "collapse" if the private text messages of everyone in the game were examined, says Kick It Out chairman Lord Ouseley.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek, Lord Ouseley claimed racism and sexism were endemic in the sport.

"All the people in power in football have to come to clean and admit that there is a problem," he said.

Former Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is being investigated by the FA after admitting sending offensive texts.

But Ouseley says focusing solely on Mackay would be a mistake because the issue went much deeper.

Without wanting to appear flippant to a serious subject in society..
Sounds like he should be naming names then if he's making sweeping, all-encompassing statements like that, rather than throwing sound bites at a publicly known example.
Of course, he'd have to hand over all his texts and emails to make sure he's on the level in all aspects of his life..........and then everybody else will have to do the same.

Then we'll get to the bottom of this.

Offering up his own correspondence and challenging others to do the same would be one step. Probably legal issues surrounding calling people out. *Knowing* that somebody is bigoted and having physical evidence to present in court when they sue you are two different things

Oh, no doubt......but is he favouring an argument based on his singular vision of society in general and applying that to a specific area, in the case football, or is claiming actual knowledge of certain people in the game who are not only holding sexist/racist views, but who are actually running their personal careers (and by extension, others) with an inherent racist/sexist makeup.

If he has specific knowledge of people, then as one of the movers and shakers in the kick it out campaign, he has a duty to highlight and encourage cases, which I can only assume he's heard first hand from individuals directly affected, otherwise there's a danger of putting forth a specious argument encompassing all of football, when the reality may be just a reflection of society's already general issues.

I thought it was a stupid thing to say. If you don't want to focus on Malky say specifically what we should be looking at ffs, you're supposed to be at the vanguard here. Without doing that you're just diverting from the issue altogether. **** leadership.
