I don't understand why if they have accepted a bid of 55M why someone else needs to come in and up the bidding, surely you offer the same and let the player decide.

Xabi Prieto retired today. A rare one club man, hell of a good player. Probably would have played for Spain if he left rather than staying loyal when they were relegated, he had plenty of opportunities to. 3 season in Segunda kind of screwed him over but he didn't miss a beat when they were promoted and still at his same level in the top flight. I remember around 12 or 13 years ago we were heavily linked. Would have done a sight better if we had picked him up ahead of Mark Gonzalez. Might have solved that problem we had on the right flank then too.
