It's in English, you sweaty sock.

Though your inability to understand fellow Celts is casting serious doubt on your actual Jockness.

Ooh ahh up the Ra, ooh ahh up the Ra. Is what they are chanting. Whilst I doubt of any of them are actual IRA sympathisers, it is a stupid thing to be chanting and pretty ignorant imo.

I know it is probably in relataliton at some of the Monarchy and Union jack **** that was chanted from the stands, And I know in dressings rooms up and down Ireland that sort of **** will get chanted in jest, mostly by GAA ****wits mind you, but makes it no less cringeworthy at best and no less utterly ignorant at worst.

If you are having ignorant crap being shouted at you from the stands, you shut them up by beating their team and not by them stooping to the level of the small minded knuckle heads.

All it does is get one side bleating on about IRA atrocities, another bleating other about British ones and the rest in the middle wishing they would all **** off.

Oh and William Wallace was a pussy.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I'd be surprised if there was 'Monarchy' or 'Union Jack' type **** sung at a Scotland game.

No Ranger fans or similar go to watch the national team in your opnion then?

I've been to Ireland/Scotland games and there were arseholes singing that **** during and after the game. Admittedly a very small minority of the overall Scottish support but they were still there.

Same way you get a small minority of the Irish support that sing/chant stupid stuff.

              There is definitely not

I dunno the vibe, certainly not Political, maybe a bit Independent (but Its never ever cropped up) its all about the booze and the game.

I've been to loads of Scotland matches home and away, and it is honestly one of the best self policed atmospheres I have encountered. It tends to be Teuchters from the very small clubs supporters of non OF clubs mixing and very few Rangers and Celtic supporters.

Extreme (and I mean extreme) alcoholism is about the highest controversy.

The girls were very silly, but, I would say the biggest issue for them (other than live streaming it) is the way they all piled in - seemingly without hesitation. I know they arent doing it as IRA supporters, they are doing it as a way to express their own Irishness, but the passing of time can dilute history. I've not been aware of any 'up the ra' chants at any previous Irish sports if it happens it doesnt make the media.

There was an irish woman on the radio and she was saying that younger people need educated, not in the history, but in civic responsibility, which is a fair point.

I was once accosted by a Scottish Rangers supporter on the way to a Scotland game and he asked - "who are youse playing today".

Loads of them support England and wear England tops.

Thats the level we are dealing with. You dont encounter too many visible OF supporters at a Scotland game.

                  Sorry but that is bollocks.

Been to away games against Scotland and have heard that **** chanted and have been called Paddy this and potato muncher that along with sectarian **** being said both in the ground and outside afterwards.

Even had it when over at Celtic Park when Ireland played Scotland in the Euros some years ago.

It gets said. Maybe not anywhere near the levels as your cousins south of the border but it happens. I am not trying to say a lot are doing it, something I was clear about in the reply to Spud.

Now go to a match involving the Scottish rugby team and it is a very different story, but trying to say that not one Scottish person would say anything like that as a football game is crap imo. The vast majority of people that go watch the Scottish national team, footy that is, are sound regular folk imo and are very like the Irish support at most games, but just like that Irish support there is a small minority of dick heads in there that say some really stupid things.

How can you tell me what I have and havent heard????

I've been to watch Scotland at football about 20 or so times and havent heard a peep. I've marched through Paris, been to Hampden sat in the pubs for hours in advance umpteen times and never heard a word of politics.

There are massive issue with sectarianism in club football in Scotland, massive. Even outside the OF. But, and I speak with hand on heart I have not heard a word of it at any Scotland match I have ever been to. I was at three last season.

Given there is evidence of up the Ra chants at the game last night then it may be that you do get more OF supporters attending Scotland v Ireland football matches. But I've not been to a Scotland v Ireland football match so cannot comment - outside that I have not ever witnessed sectarianism at a Scotland match.

At a club match, yes 100's of times. Even at Hearts where the Union Jack is weaponsied.

If anything they National team is about Independence and the focus is far more (and I mean 100%) directed at 'hatred' of England. You lot do not come close in comparison.

Thinking about it, there was a sizeable show of support for Palestine when we played Israel.

And Ukraine when we played Ukraine

The exact same way you are pretty much telling me what I have or have not seen and heard at Ireland vs Scotland games I have been to, even though you say you have never even been to one of those games.

I have at no point commented on Scotland fans in general or Scotland playing other countries. Just the cold fact that I have been to more than one Ireland vs Scotland game in Scotland and have first hand experience of hearing what , and again I feel there is a need to say this, a very small minority were chanting/shouting.

So I am not telling you what you heard or did not hear at games you yourself say you were never at, I am not telling you what you heard or did not hear at games involving countries other than Ireland that you did go to, I am simply saying what I saw and heard in person in games I was at and what I had shouted at me and others I was with as we went through Glasgow after the game.

It is not an attack or critique of Scottish fans as a whole because Scottish fans are generally amongst the best in the world at home or on the road, be it footy and especially when it comes to rugby.

I am simply saying that there can be a minority at games against Ireland that bring sectarian **** into it, the same way as I said earlier that there will be a similar minority amongst Irish supporters, who for the most part are excellently behaved at home and on the road, that feel the need to bring nationalistic **** into things.

I have been to Ireland vs Scotland rugby matches, in Ireland and in Scotland, and not heard a peep of what I heard at the footy games between the same two nations. So to my mind it is football specific or maybe more accurately specific to a certain element that attaches itself to the footy support.

Which has nothing at all to do with what I was saying. That's just strawmanning.

It's a Scottish/Irish fight. Leave us alone to have our passive aggressive nobody gets hurt battle.

Sooner or later someone English will wonder in, say something harmless and probably sensible at the wrong moment and we will just turn on him.
