I didn't see any announcement that they're looking to change the World Cup cycle to 2 years

And the expanded Champions League format as well.

The European clubs have actually rejected this new Club World Cup, but FIFA/Infantino has gone ahead and announced it anyway.

They’ve also announced a ‘World Series’, a club friendly tournament to be held in March international windows.

Someone needs to get ahold of all of this.

'Fifa is to reconsider the format of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, says president Gianni Infantino.

The teams will increase from 32 to 48 for the competition and were set to be divided into 16 groups of three, with the top two progressing to the last 32.

Infantino said that would be looked at after the "success" of the four-team groups at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

"Here the groups of four have been absolutely incredible," said Infantino.

"Until the last minute of the last match you would not know who goes through.

"We have to revisit or at least re-discuss the format. This is something that will certainly be on the agenda in the next meeting."

I think they tried to change it as they are concerned that to many teams will know what they need that last game to qualify so will lead to fixed games according to some journo i awas listening to the other day.

With an extra round if there are 32 teams qualifying. Not sure you can shorten the group stages which will still need 3 dates.

Sounds a bit ****, tbh.

Will put paid to smallet countries hosting, I guess with 48 teams being catered for.

I absolutely loved football in 2006. Obviously we were all buzzing after Istanbul, Pro Evo was immense and I was unbeatable at it and FPL was really taking off. Good times.
