The article about them (the gang that were streaming the matches) said that indecent images of children were found on a computer during the search so more than just the streaming of football matches may have been going on.
Though I do agree with Nev's comment about how the sentences seem out of whack, if it is only for the illegal broadcasting and tax avoidance, when compared to what people get for rape, battery, gbh etc etc.
If what they did warrants the sentences they got, then the sentences for other crimes should be scaled upwards also but that is a chat for a different thread methinks.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

If you have a problem with how much Sky/BT charge then you have a problem with how much players earn/demand.
No one has a right to watch live sports. The market has, over 35 years or so, decided that live sports cost money. I'd like a brand new SUV, doesn't mean I'm entitled to one.
Sky IS too expensive, but that's because the players earn too much money.

"gang"
Makes it sound like they're out on the streets roughing up any other illegal streaming providers, Peaky Blinders style

The Broadcasting Act 1996 gives the Government the power to dictate which sporting events are in the 'national interest' and as such should be available on free to air terrestrial television.
FA Cup, World Cup, Olympics, Grand National & Wimbledon are all on the list.
