How did funds become tight from the summer to Jan? I thought we tried to spend 25m+ / 30m+ on Either Willian, Costa or Mikh??? especially with days to go in the summer window, after we had signed Shako for 15m and all the others?

First choice should be more valuable than second though shouldn't it? More shirt sales too as Salah is cheaper to get than Konoplyanka

value for money is key to what the transfer committee are doing. they set a value for each player and wont go beyond it. understandable but not applicable when chelsea, man city etc... enter the bidding.

market value isnt decided by data / stats on a computer. its decided by demand and supply for the player. if we want someone enough we have to pay the going rate at the time of the bidding.

also re salah vs konoplyanka perhaps we feel that salah at 21 is more adaptable / mouldable to new tactics / styles of play etc... than 24 year old konoplyanka. so he was the no.1 target.

Said before that this not overpaying strategy will not attract top quality established players imo. It will be bidding a price then relying on the player to demand a move. Only it doesnt really work when you are negotiating with a billionaire

I wish I was a fly on the wall during negotiations mate. We went through all that trouble ie flying to Ukraine, talking for 3 days, allowing the player to have a medical but it just so happened that we found out on deadline day that the owner didn't want to sell. Yeh right.

If it is true, is it not down to the player to explore legal action for breach of contract, and are we wanting a player to take legal action against his club, I remember the situation of legal action being discussed regarding the Suarez situation in the summer and a lot of people had stuff to say about that
