Liverpool hope to sign Yehven Konoplyanka from Dnipro before January transfer window closes

      CHRIS BASCOMBE

Liverpool hope to sign highly rated Ukrainian international Yevhen Konoplyanka before the transfer window closes.

After missing out on Egyptian Mohamed Salah to Chelsea, the Merseyside club have already begun negotiations with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for a deal that could be worth as much as £16 million.

Konoplyanka is a pacey winger who could function on either flank and has starred for the Ukrainian national team, featuring against England in the recent World Cup qualifiers.

The 24-year-old impressed against Roy Hodgson’s teams, alerting many English scouts to his promise.

He has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal also having considered a move in the past.

Liverpool will be eager to conclude negotiations swiftly having been stung in the transfer market recently following late moves from their top four rivals.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has been frustrated by the lack of additions to the squad during this window, although he stressed after Tuesday night’s Merseyside derby he was fully on board with the club’s approach to deals.

Liverpool are determined to get value for money in the transfer market but are ready to pay a premium for the most coveted talent.

Liverpool also need cover in defence and midfield, but the addition of such a highly regarded player would undoubtedly be a fillip ahead of a crucial period in pursuit of a Champions League return.

He looks like a great player, very similar to Willian and Sterling. Puts in a defensive shift too.
        Was muß, das muß.

            Forget death by football.

It's all about 'kill by counter'

That John Bradley guy does a show on CityTalk radio on World football. He's one of those who things he knows every player in the world and he has a massive hard on for the Russian league.

I think he's right though, he's that bit older and more established so the price will likely be higher.

He's commentated on the Russian league for a while, he genuinely knows his stuff in that league.

                      Whos place would be take?

                      Mignolet
                      Johnson Agger Sakho Enrique
                      Gerrard Lucas Henderson
                      Sturridge Suarez Konoplyanka

At a guess? So Sterling/Coutinho will miss out?

Classic bait and switch tactic from Ayre. Mess around with Salah until Chelsea buy him, and then go for Konophyanka without any competition.
