Indeed. According to Rafa Honigstein he was asking for silly money from Bayern for wages and they have a strict wage policy and believed he hadn't proved himself. I think over the last decade in terms of development and sustainability Bayern have proved themselves to be excellent judges of these things. I got the impression that they felt if they raised his wages then all their young players would want wage hikes, so it isn't just about his individual value for them.
