Incidentally - he can't play for them this season for the same reason Ben Arfa can't play for Nice.

They are owned by Volkswagen (always have been), so there are plenty of money available when the right thing comes a long. That said they are not throwing money like a Saudi Prince in it...Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostHow the hell have they got that sort of money to spend on a player?

West Ham missed out on eight transfer targets, including Nemanja Vidic, on transfer deadline day, The Insider can reveal.
The Hammers were keen to do business on the final day of the January window and had prioritised a move for a defender following a series of injury setbacks.
However, bids for Sylvain Distin, Younes Kaboul and Kara Mbodj all fell through, while the club were also linked with Marseille defender Doria and QPR's Steven Caulker.
Former Manchester United defender Vidic was the biggest name to see a switch to Upton Park fall through, with West Ham failing with an enquiry for the Inter centre-back as they looked to entice him back to England.
The Insider has also learned that the Hammers tabled a bid for Kaboul late in the window after seeing negotiations with Everton over Distin collapse – the Toffees demanded a fee for the 37-year-old despite talks initially being held over a free transfer – and they were hopeful of landing the Spurs captain.
However, Kaboul had already rejected one move away from White Hart Lane prior to West Ham’s approach and it quickly became apparent that he would not be willing to make the move to Upton Park.
The club subsequently made a bid for Genk’s Mbodj, another player they were confident of acquiring, but that move collapsed too, while Caulker was another option, only for the Hammers to receive little encouragement from QPR, much to the frustration of insiders at the club.
With Carlton Cole set to join West Brom, West Ham also tabled an audacious bid to sign Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan, but reports suggest that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy personally intervened to stop the forward joining the club’s London rivals, causing Cole's move to collapse.
The move to acquire the 30-year-old came after the Premier League refused to ratify Mauro Zarate’s return to the club from QPR, who had agreed to take Matt Jarvis on loan in part exchange.
Premier League rules state that a player cannot make more than one move in a transfer window and, as the Argentine’s return to east London would have counted as a transfer, the move was vetoed.
The club’s co-chairman David Gold subsequently took to Twitter after the close of the window to express his anger at the Hammers' inability to complete any moves, tweeting: "Sorry for keeping you up late but at the last moment the main deal collapsed and the rest folded like a pack of cards."
