A lot of my youthful footballing fix had to be provided by Football Italia and World Cups. Therefore, Italia '90 and Roger Milla inspired me and I did try to replicate David Platt's goal against Belgium.

I missed the Van Basten goal, but we talked about it in Primary School and we all giggled how close it was to Van ******* and changed it so, in the Panini sticker book.

Salvatore Schillaci, Claudio Caniggia, Roberto Baggio, Gabriel Batistuta ... I was all about the goals.

One of my first childhood memories was my older cousin taking me to Anfield in the mid to late 80s. We stood in the Kop and I couldn't see a thing unless I was on his shoulders. I vividly remember seeing a man roll up his matchday program and urinate through it. I was disgusted and had no idea that type of filth took place . Aside from that I remember the wondrous noise, the roar that gave me shivers and the sway of the Kop. It felt like you were out on the ocean. I was hooked from that day on.

I also used to play kick about in the street (Norris Green) on matchdays as a kid. When a goal went in you could hear the cheer. Again, it sent shivers down my spine. Amazing. I was always Ian Rush when we played in the street by the way

Glenn Hoddle.

I got a signed Spurs ball in the mid 80s....all the names on there...Hoddle, Waddle, GRAHAM ROBERTS ....but I already loved Hoddle by then. A masterful midfielder.

After Hoddle came the likes of Michael Laudrup, Gascoigne, Romario. I was also in awe of van Basten.

Batistuta was definitely one of my favourite non-LFC players. George Weah too. I remember watching that goal he scored where he start dribbling from his own half live on TV and being in total awe of it

Zola was another too. Romario too. Little geniuses.

I also remember thinking that Ronnie Rosenthal was going to be one of the best forwards ever when we signed him too. I was 10. I'm still the same judge of a player now.
