Yeah, you'd have to guess 150. Big transfer to Barca after being Arsenals star.

And we're already dicey on FFP.

Think I'm just trying to talk myself out of getting excited because I don't think it will happen though TBH

Absolutely bonkers if we aren't after this fella. Spend the money on him and leave Lallana where he is. And I don't give a **** what wages he's on, it's not my money as everyone is quick to mention in the other thread

I have always regarded him as a vastly overrated player, very good but nowhere near as great as he has been made out during his Arsenal career. He would fit into what we are doing here at Liverpool. £30m is very very steep though IMO.

If you had a choice of Lallana or Fabregas it would be Fabregas every time. He's brilliant. Barca are mental

Madness was selling Thiago last summer - so young yet so good. They might pay the price for being so loyal to Xavi for one season too many. Thiago should have been taking over in the middle of the park for next season.

I really don't think it is. I think it's a decent fee to be honest.

Anyway get the sweepstake done you slacker!

He's on £100k a week according to the Telegraph.

That rug really tied the room together.

Chelsea ready to make £30m move for Barcelona’s Cesc Fábregas

                                • Arsenal turn down chance to re-sign former captain
                                • Blues set to make offer with first choice Koke heading to Barça

Chelsea have emerged as surprise contenders to lure Cesc Fábregas back to the Premier League after Arsenal indicated they would not be taking up their option to re-sign their former captain from Barcelona.

Fábregas has been informed he can leave Camp Nou this summer after three seasons back at the Catalan club with Barca, now under the stewardship of Luis Enrique, seeking to sign the Atlético Madrid midfielder Koke, a move which would limit the 27-year-old’s first-team opportunities. The Spain international is disappointed Arsenal have opted against pursuing a return to the Emirates stadium, but is willing to consider other options in England.

The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all considered moves for the midfielder in the past, but it is understood their respective priorities lie elsewhere in the market this summer. Chelsea had hoped to secure Koke themselves as they seek a long-term successor for Frank Lampard, whose own future at Stamford Bridge is in the balance as time ticks down on his current contract and the new Major League Soccer franchise New York City, amongst other clubs, hoping to secure his services from March 2015.

Yet, with Koke keener to move to Barcelona, they will now consider alternatives and, having been alerted to his availability, have turned their attentions to securing Fábregas for around £30m. The midfielder, capped 87 times by Spain and a two-time European Championships and World Cup winner, could operate in a deep-lying role alongside Nemanja Matic and dictate the rhythm of Chelsea’s performances, and is attractive given his familiarity with the rigours of the Premier League.

The player may need some convincing given his deep-lying affinity with Arsenal, where he spent eight years and played 212 league games, but his desire to play in England for a Champions League qualifier does appear to limit his options. He would, however, have to build bridges with José Mourinho, with whom he has endured a tempestuous relationship over the years. Only in February he told the Portuguese to “shut up” following Barcelona’s Champions League last 16 defeat of City despite Mourinho having branded the Catalans’ team the worst for “many years”.

Chelsea had initially indicated they envisaged a relatively quiet summer in the market, with the Atlético forward Diego Costa their priority signing. The Spain international is expected to join for £31.8m from the La Liga winners, but he may now be followed by his club-mates Tiago Mendes, who played under Mourinho during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, under the Bosman ruling and the left-back Filipe Luis for around £18m. The latter will serve as a replacement for the departing Ashley Cole.

They also hope to add another striker, possibly Mario Mandzukic of Bayern Munich, to the ranks yet, with David Luiz’s sale to Paris St Germain for around £40m having offered some much needed leeway in the market, the squad appears likely to undergo considerable and eye-catching changes. Fábregas would prefer his future to be settled ahead of the World Cup – he is currently preparing with the Spain squad – but is now resigned to leaving Barcelona who consider Koke, five years his junior, to represent a more productive future as they seek new blood ahead of next term.

Manchester United had come close to securing the older man’s services last summer only for a £35m bid to be rejected, and the new manager Louis van Gaal is believed to be prioritising a striker for now. Manchester City’s priority is to retain Yaya Touré and, potentially, secure their long-standing target Fernando from Porto, while Liverpool hope to sign Adam Lallana from Southampton – they may need to pay up to £30m for his services – to follow up their £4.5m purchase of his England team-mate, Rickie Lambert.

Arsenal’s lack of interest might be deemed surprising, but Arsène Wenger bought Mesut Özil for a club record £42.5m last year and has given Santi Cazorla a new contract. With Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere considered key players at the Emirates stadium, and Mikel Arteta still with a year to run on his contract in north London, a pursuit of Fábregas would not be a priority at present despite the Arsenal manager apparently seeking to strengthen significantly ahead of next year.
