As others have pointed out, Betrand in our dysfunctional defensive line may have been a different kettle of fish. Southampton have conceded the same amount of goals as Chelsea and would be very unlucky not to have somebody feature in a Premier League XI defence.

He's also been the only consistent performer out of all the left-backs in the league, so he was pretty much a shoo-in for the award.

Dont think he would have been shot here.

I think Moreno got around 5/10 for this season. I agree that he can surely get better but i have no doubt that Bertrand would have been a better signing.

The goals we conceded at home to United were both down to Moreno alone.

Conversely, Bertrand went to a team where their manager and first team were decimated. Yet came out smelling of roses.

Anyway, Bertrand doesn't excite me and is not the long term solution. What he was for us last season when the whole squad needed an urgent rebuild was THE solution at the time. When you have a pot of money fullbacks are taken care of last, not first.

Had we got Bertrand we'd have had £10m approx more to spend on a forward or CM. Those positions should always come before a FB.
        One tit for another.

Good solid player, I'm happy with Moreno though I think he was the right option in the summer out of the 2.

i dont really know enough about bertrand but he seems to have had a good solid year at saints. is it because saints coach their players better?

i dont think moreno is all that good. often poor defensively, blurts forward with no end product. often no cross, or runs into a dead end, stops then cuts it back.

maybe we need to loan moreno to saints for six months.

With us losing Suarez and our squad needing a massive overhaul, I could not believe and still to this day can't believe we spunked £16m(?) on an effing left back when someone like Bertrand was around on the cheap.

Said it back in the summer. Captain Foresight, out
              .
After playing with Lovren for a season do you really think he would want to play with him again?

We paid £12m for Moreno and Bertrand cost £10m + whatever the initial loan fee was. Moreno is also 4 years younger and arguably had a better pedigree last summer. (No to mention we wouldn't have had the option of a loan from Chelsea).

                Aye, just ask Luke Shaw.

LB is the least of our problems. I'm sure Moreno will come good.

I think he has already, he just turned a bit bad subsequently.
