I couldn't be doing with 'Lawro's banter' last night so watched it on ITV.

It's a sad day when you choose to listen to Andy Townsend but 'Lawro' drives men to do strange things.

Lawro is terrible but IMO Townsend is the absolute worst. The very worst, and that's saying something. Unbearable cunt he is.

Also Tyldesley is entirely unbearable too while Guy Mowbray is a really good commentator.

I didn't mind Lawro last night tbh.
        Oh I don't know.

I wonder if adverts have an influence on those figures, as well as the gob****e pundits.
Although TBF, whenever I had BBC on, they're usually plugging some upcoming thing.

He wasn't too bad - I think he's listened to all the complaints about him. Seems to have made an effort to sound less displeased to be there, and cut out the lame attempts at dry humour.

            Townsend is completely intolerable.

He commentated on the game in a similar style to how my mum enjoys football with me.

'Whys he doing that, get up'

              'What an idiot'

              'He should have done better'

Its totaly surface analysis. Pointless things that anyone can say, offers no insight. Colour commentary is supposed to offer up some background and context to the game. He doesnt do that at all IMO

Think Ronaldo is up there too. Despite some peoples opinions of him.
Messi a far more productive player at the elite level of club football than Maradona was. In a way though, that production and effort expended at club level by Messi seems to hurt him when it comes to World Cup time. Same goes for Cristiano Ronaldo. Very difficult to be carrying the load for your club through so many games and then have to do it against the best in the world in June/July with no real extended rest period.

see I couldn't disagree more. I don't want in depth analysis whilst watching the game, I have my own eyes. Someone droaning on and on gets on my tits. I want as little spoken as is possible. Its not radio commentary.

Turn the sound off then. That's what I usually do.

Im not talking about in depth analytical breakdowns. But a bit of comment about why a player made this or that decision, what he would have done or how someone was left with no option.

It happens in lots of other sports. It even happens in Football. Plenty are able to do it.

It's just the way he talks I think. He's probably just not cut out for TV.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Maradona turned teams into champions wherever he went no matter what previous standard (see Napoli, Argentina 86). Messi has won it all, but in a star studded team.

Both were/are absolute magicians, but you cannot underestimate Maradona, in an era of bad pitches (Lineker refered to the pich Maradona scored his wonder goal on as a cabbage patch) and bad tackles the guy was a superstar.

If you watch Maradona's goal v England in 86, the ball is bobbling AOTS and he still has it under his spell. It was an appalling pitch.
