I was way ahead of the game on this one, albeit as backup to Studge and Suarez

There's a real lack of good strikers available and the window is getting on a bit, our need is very obvious in this position. Cavani will cost bucket loads with his fee and wages, Eto'o only cost the latter and he will score goals. Be good for us while we flesh out who to go for in January or next summer.

Borini may be hungrier, but that doesn't mean he's better.

True it doesn't, however in this instance I would say Borini who isn't brilliant by any stretch is better than Eto'o at this stage of their respective careers. This just strikes me of pure desperation, the club knew back in November last year that Suarez was as good as off and I can't believe we are less than a week away from the start of the season and we've resorted to looking at aging free transfers

I'm not sure he is to be honest, and I don't think last season's stats would back you up either.

I agree. I think that given the same playing time Eto'o would score more and considering we would/should only give him a one year deal I would rather have someone scoring and creating more goals for that year.

Borini is a backup (if he stays) and Eto'o should be too, so it's an upgrade IMO.

ok he may not have the pace but he gets himself in the right positions to score we just need sterling coutinio etc to get the ball to him when hes in these positions and he will score goals .... lets take him for one year

I'm not sure you can compare stats, Borini played largely up front on his own for a team that for long periods looked doomed to relegation so he was never going to set the scoring charts on fire. He must have done something right though for Sunderland to offer £14m for him. Don't get me wrong I don't particularly see either as a good option and I'd be breaking the bank to get a top forward in. I suppose it's an argument of which one is less ****

Would be slightly gutted if we have no other option but to sign this guy. Anyone remember his foul on Suarez last season at the Bridge? The guys a prick and a mercenary.

Different if we hadn't signed Lambert but the thought of a potential run of games with only Lambert and Eto'o available if/when Sturridge gets injured is laughable. This is the sort of signing that would have been tolerated a couple of years back. Now if we're talking Sturridge/Cavani or whoever/Lambert/Eto'o then it looks okay.

                          I'm in the pro-Eto'o camp

If there are no top strikers available at the moment then it makes sense to get him in for a year and then go all out for someone in January or next summer, rather than spunk a load of cash on a player that isn't quite top drawer. Given what's happened with Sanchez and Remy it's not like we haven't tried, we've just been unfortunate. We now have to do the best we can given the circumstances. I don't doubt that Rodgers wants Cavani or someone similar but maybe it isn't possible.

Eto'o is a cunt (the kind of cunt you want on your team) and a talented one at that. He can definitely finish and can play on the wing if needed. I think he would suit our system and his experience would complement our young squad. The only issues as others have said are his potential wage demands, and his impact on squad harmony. Worth the risk I'd say

Would he be playing at the African Cup in january though?

I'd have no real issue if we sign him. He proved last season he can score goals.

No where near the player he once was but we are desperately short upfront and with no better prospects on the horizon we're hardly in a position to be picky.
