What makes you think Man United can leapfrog us and Arsenal? I can't see what improvements they've made to their squad that would justify that. A new manager yes, but I'm still not sure their squad, or even first XI is up to that?

Early predictions are tough. Always best to have a guess after Aug 31st, you know the squads and have seen a couple of games.

Example: At present I'd have LFC nowhere near the top 4 as we will not be able to rely on Sturridge, shame as he's one of the top 5 strikers in the league. We simply must have a good back up to ensure we can compete in the four competitions. Sturridge couldn't even play every Saturday, never mind asking him to play mid week as well.

Anyway, based on the fact I think we'll sign a decent back up striker - as opposed to one on a similar level....

          1. Chelsea. Needed a top class striker & they have one. Also have the assist king in Fabregas, which likes of Willian & Hazard will love as much as Costa. A solid team now with a cutting edge. WillFabregas work as hard as Oscar did though?

          2. Man City. Take last years best team and then add good players in positions they struggled with in CB & DM, plus a new lease of life for Jovetic & they're looking good. Will run Chelsea close.

          3. Arsenal. No reason why they couldn't win it tbh. We're flying last season until injuries struck. Played the community shield like a team intent on winning that title & in adding Sanchez have brought in the X factor. Expect Ozil to improve after his first season. In addition to Alexis a fit again Walcott & the returned Joel Campbell will ensure they never lack pace in attack. Still have holes that need filling though.

          4. Liverpool. Main issues last season were the defence & a lack of depth to the squad. At times Rodgers benched one of Couts or Raheem if only so his game changing sub wasn't Joe Allen or Lucas. The nightmare of last season when we had CB's playing at full back shouldn't be happening again, ensuring we have width, Manquillo & Moreno look to be great additions. Lovren looks an inspired signing at CB.

So why the pessimism? No Suarez and no replacement. I can live with Lambert being the replacement for Aspas. And I can cover the lack of Luis by going with one striker. But the teams with the best strikers by & large compete for the biggest prizes & remarkably improve the prospects of a team. A 20 goal a season striker changes a relegation candidate to a Mid table position, or a team in mid table to challenging for Europe. We've lost a 30 goal a season striker & not replaced him.
          Forwards.......

Should this be merged with the 2014/15 Season predictions thread?

                I think we'll finish 3rd.

City and Chelsea above us, with Arse pipping Man United for 4th.

Everton and Spurs will finish in the "who gives a ****" positions.
