Hmm, it's a tricky subject really. On the one side I can see where you're coming from Norbs. On the other I can't really ridicule any of them who lose it due to addiction or something similar.

As easy as they do have it I imagine for some footballers when they retire and have all that money but next to nothing to do with their time it's easy to chuck their cash at stuff. And get caught up in stuff like gambling.

It's all relative. You and I struggling to find £500 for a mortgage payment would be similar to James trying to find £5,000. Keeping up appearances with players on a similar wage bracket by matching their spending and then there is all the free time.

Sure, from the outside looking in, he's thrown away something we'd all dream of, but then he's probably never felt the pressure we have, nor made the mistakes we have. It's a preconception footballers aren't very bright, so why should we expect them to be mature, sensible, financially savvy and looking to invest for their future? Especially when many of them might have surrounded themselves with wrong folk.
