Always thought if it was a red card the ref had to stop play regardless? Not sure what I make of it to be honest.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostInteresting red for FabianskI.
Scoring opportunity wasn't denied, but because the goal wasn't scored he produced the red.

Very odd alright..........even handballed it first so it should have been a free out anyway.Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View PostAlways thought if it was a red card the ref had to stop play regardless? Not sure what I make of it to be honest.
Laughable the way Sky are saying the ref had made up his mind to send him off immediately regardless of whether or not he was going to sent the keeper off.
If that's the case, the ref is duty bound to stop play straight away to prevent any follow on involvement from a player he is to send off. Yet we're hearing how it was great refereeing.........I'm not so sure."I will make the boys feel your support"

TBH, I've always understood it as having to stop play immediately, as a player can still influence the game even though he's to be sent off as soon as the play stops. Same way a second yellow card has to stop the game straight away.Originally posted by ChesterDave View PostI think the game needs only immediately stopping if dangerous play/violent conduct"I will make the boys feel your support"

Sounds like the ref's whistle did go (according to Sky's mics anyway), even though he didn't motion for the play to stop or to play on............ultimately the chance after it is meaningless then.
Poor refereeing really then, and that's without the initial foul being West Ham's. That red will be rescinded."I will make the boys feel your support"

I was bored so had a bit of a dig around and found this on the rights and duties of a referee
R
eferees should consider the following circumstances in
deciding whether to apply the advantage or stop play:
the severity of the offence. If the infringement warrants
an expulsion, the referee shall stop play and send the
player off unless there is a subsequent opportunity to score a goal
...
T
he decision to penalise the original offence must be
taken within the next few seconds.
I
f the offence warrants a caution, it shall be issued at the
next stoppage.
however, unless there is a clear advantage, it is
recommended that the referee stops play and cautions
the player immediately
if the caution is NOT issued at the next stoppage, it
cannot be shown laterFootball without Origi is nothing
