    The Liverpool Curse?

With all the critcism now being thrown at Suarez for suddenly being a shadow of the player he was at LFC, it got me thinking about other high profile departures.

Can anyone name a player who has left LFC and done better for it, either in terms of trophies or improved footballing ability? Torres, Owen, Fowler all went downhill after they left.

The only player I can think of who probably did better for leaving is Danny Murphy. Not a world beater but he carved out a solid reputation with Fulham after he left us.

Other than that I'm struggling. If that is the case, this is what we should be saying to 'young Raheem' and all the other players who think the grass is greener.

Alonso, Arbeloa and Mascherano have all done reasonably well for themselves.

I think it applies more to strikers, there was a table knocking about with the gpg ratio before and after.

I don't see how Danny Murphy did BETTER after leaving. He had a good career at Fulham and Spurs but he was first team player under Houllier and won trophies whilst at Liverpool.

McManaman defo but it is true to say that not many players leave LFC and go onto bigger and better things. Shaggy names the obvious ones. I'll throw Leto into the mix too...

Aquilani is another one better off.

Ryan Babbel have won quite a few things with Ajax and played more CL footy than he would here.

Morientes had a CL final after leaving us.

But players leaving us while being really good for us, it's hard to point to many...

Not being high profile, but done well:

Insua have done quite well, although not a striker...

Brad Friedel I would argue have done well since leaving us, at least for his career.

If they are wanted and loved but leave, like that bitch Torres, they are cursed for the rest of their career. If they are meh, well who gives a ****.

Though not as prolific, Torres pretty much won everything since he left us? Euro Championship, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup. Best he did with us was a Champs League semi final, with Chelsea he scored the goal in the semi final that took them through. I appreciate it ****s the narrative a bit, but it happens to be true!

Did Morientes play in a CL final after he left us? I remember him going to Valencia and then a french club. I am not sure if either of them played in a CL final after 2006?

Was the season before he joined us that he last played in a CL final.

                        Was it before us then?

edit: just wiki it quickly, and it was. Won a spanish cup and french league since leaving...

I think he means more of players elevating thier own abilities after leaving us as opposed to players moving to successful clubs. Could be argued that, taking Alonso as an example, that he moved to a much better team and so the individual improvement is difficult to measure.

An example of a player who became a better player, increasing their 'stock', after leaving us would be Gabriel Paletta

Yeah, but he hardly fits the "high profile departures" though... It's a hard argument calling him high profile today even

Could also be argued that Paletta dropped down a level in order to become more successful. Someone like Kevin Sheedy failed at Liverpool due to competition for places but went on to be a success at Everton
