When did Scotland get so good?

The U-19 team play Spain tonight in the final of the U-19 championships. Admittedly they lost 4-0 to Spain in the group stages but still I would never have expected this at the start of the tournament.

It's about time though. They have been ****ty for so long, it is about time they bring up some real talent.

would be nice to have some good young scots coming through. LFC isnt quite the same without a sprinkling of mad jocks in the side (extremely talented ones!)

The link to Snodgrass of Livingston earlier this summer looks a lot less odd now certainly.

We've always had a fairly decent youth setup in Scotland.

The problem appears to be making the step from U19 / U21 to full international level.

Not very many players seem to be able to do this for whatever reason.

nothing more than a false dawn order was restored as soon as they lost.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head!

Part of the problem is down to attitude of some of the players (from personal experience) and part is down to the lack of investment in general by the SFA. We need a greater amount of players coming through at U19/U21 level and more guidance for these young guys so they don't go astray.

Sort out the joke of an SPL by admitting more teams so they don't play one another so much, restrict the amount of foreigners in each club and more than anything change the bloody culture these guys live by.

What annoys me more than anything is when you drive through areas and see nothing but 'no ball games' signs everywhere - give the bloody kids somewhere decent to play locally and you will see the skills start to come through. More integration between schools and clubs wouldn't go amiss either.

i was under the impression and had gotten the impression although this is going back only 4 years or so but that the youth set up in scotland in general had fallen into such a bad way that it had to be nationally addressed.
i only know this because they were looking at the setup over here that the F.A.I. had started.

I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06
