Lets not forget Liverpool was after a host of top players that didn't sign for us - Sanchez, Micky Ryan, William, that defender who did his knee and so on. The club have not lacked ambition in the past, but Rodgers was not really the man to lure them (and as we've long suspected his taste was poor enough most of the time)

tweets that put the onus very much on Teixeira and Liverpool

Shakhtar want €50m for Teixeira & believe keeping the player until the end of the season would help secure that sum
Any move for Teixeira now will be dependent on the player pushing the case with Shakhtar personally. #lfc (Sam Wallace - Telegraph)

Klopp added: “If you could play with this money in the Bundesliga it would make things much easier. Somebody told me the other day there was a list of the richest clubs in the world and Crystal Palace and other Premier League teams like this are on it. You are in competition with all the teams who all have money.

“In Germany we look to England and hear of a player changing clubs for £20m and think: ‘Oh my god.’ A £20m transfer in Germany is a real big one, maybe only three or four clubs have done it. Take the money to Germany and the Bundesliga and it would make a big difference but here it doesn’t make a big difference. You have unbelievably strong players in each place, and expensive players in each team. Money is not an issue, and it is not the only issue. You can’t just throw the money away and take any players you want. It is always about the decision. You can sign a lot of rubbish with money or you can make really good decisions. We have money but we are not in Disneyland saying: ‘Come on take what you want.’”

Jürgen Klopp said on Friday that Liverpool are not prepared to pay “Disneyland money” to secure the services of the Brazilian Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk amid growing fears at the club that Chelsea’s interest in the player remains strong.

The Liverpool manager was talking on the day managing director Ian Ayre returned from talks with Shakhtar in Florida. There is no buy-out clause for the 26-year-old and Shakhtar rate the player at €50 million [£38 million], which is far in excess of what Liverpool want to pay.

Any move now will be dependent on Teixeira pushing the case with Shakhtar personally, while the Merseyside club feel that their valuation of around £24.5 million is more realistic. Nevertheless, with the player also a potential target for Chelsea before the close of the January window at 11pm on Feb 1, there are no certainties for Liverpool.

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre offered £24million for the Brazilian during face to face talks with Shakhtar officials in Florida on Wednesday, but will be at Norwich on Saturday with negotiations at stalemate.

Shakhtar value Teixeira at £38m leaving Liverpool to weigh up their next move after bringing forward their summer transfer plans due to their injury crisis.

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool won’t pay over the odds for talent – despite his burning desire to strengthen the squad during the current window.

The Reds are hoping to secure a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk’s highly-rated Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira.

Chief executive Ian Ayre has returned to the UK following talks in America but further negotiations will be held with the Ukrainian outfit.

Liverpool’s initial offer was £24.5million with Shakhtar demanding around £38million.

Whether a compromise can he reached remains to be seen but Klopp says he feels a responsibility to ensure the Reds get value for money in the transfer market.

Benteke, Lallana and Allen could fetch around £15m each. Then you have the likes off Sturridge, Balotelli etc...

Providing there were willing buyers to that amount, which in isolation is possible but I very much doubt would be the case for all of the above. Then consider any pay offs and the need to continue to pay wages of those who we cannot sell but have already replaced OR been forced not to replace due to financial constraints.

It's not easy, even if players are willing to come, clubs willing to sell and FSG prepared to make the investment. We will need to do as good a job selling as buying.
