Gotze is the more proven at a much higher level, but they are very different players who would play in very different roles.

Looking at our current squad though, I would probably pick Lacazette. My logic being that if we had an injury to one or two of our players that can play behind the front man/men, then we already have enough cover to slot in there.

We have Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Mane, Markovic, Ojo, and Ibe. So even losing two leaves us with cover.

But if we get one or two long term injuries again to our current front men, we currently do not have a lot of first team level players for there. Sturridge I cannot see going a season without missing chunks of it, and Lacazette brings a lot of the qualities that a fit Sturridge has.

We have Sturridge, Origi, and Ings. I am not including Benteke as I do not expect him to be here after this window, and Balotelli I left out because he is ****.

What I liked last year was having four or five players contribute 10-12 goals each and Gotze would also give us that. I prefer it to the days of when we relied on Torres to stay injury-free and score 25 goals.

I think you're right to discard Benteke as it looks certain he and Balotelli will go. I guess Markovic will probably be sold and Ojo loaned out. Plus we will have injuries and suspensions.

So maybe we do have room for Gotze.
