Gareth Southgate says football is a sport he loves but the interim England manager admits there are aspects of the football industry he does not like.

Gareth Southgate will earn £500,000 for leading England over the next two months, the equivalent of his annual salary as Under-21s boss. (Times - subscription required)

Clearly not the money hey Gareth!

That's 60k a week. In the world of football it's peanuts.

Why does it need to be so much though? The English national manager is the best paid in International football as I recall. Why?

Especially if others will do it cheaper?

Because they're trying to attract managers who currently manage in the PL, which happens to also have the highest paid managers in the world.

          It is what it is.

Sam was on less than Hodgson and from what I can see they've just give GS Sam's wage whilst he sits in the role.

I dont get why its needed though. Allerdyce might have been paid £4m a year or whatever silly number it was, but its too much. Hes not even that good.

3m. Same as Bilic who replaced him at wham and less than half of what klopps on. That TV money at work.

Thats Premier League though. Not the FA. The FA should be WAY more concerned with grassroots and everything else in football. Not the caliber of International manager. Just think its a joke, especially the amount that Allerdyce got when he left. Priorities are way off.

As ideal as that is I think they would get ripped apart if they prioritised the other way.

Failure of the England team is front page news. News about grassroots investment is usually tucked about 5 pages inside the back cover.

They need the visible quantifiable success to stave off the press. Long term 20 year qualitative development just doesn't cut it.

Well the current course isn't exactly yielding any results.

But it is giving the press something to write about so I guess they are kinda happy

I suppose they could invest the money in grassroots instead and fetch through a wave of talented youngsters to play 4-4-2 hoofball because we pay peanuts for a **** manager.

Issue isn't how much we pay the manager, issue is the ****e we keep hiring IMO.

Southgate is on the front pages relating to a tax avoidance scheme the authorities have challenged never rains but it pours

Rooney is another that is being looked at
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

England 2 Malta 0. Typically below par performance from England.

Even we managed to beat Malta 5-1 away.

Pretty happy with that. After the Euros it's about our level
