The trial at Celtic went better than I could have expected but maybe not for the reasons I expected.
Celtic asked for him to go back after Christmas. They say the only reason they aren't offering a contract now is because he isn't physically developed enough for the Scottish U17 league yet and worry it could hinder his development and expose him to risk of injury.
More importantly the agent called me after the first day of the trial and told me Thomas was better than he ever imagined and that he didn't think Celtic was the right place for him. Told me to relax and let Thomas enjoy the Celtic trial experience but he's not going there.
When he returned Thomas at the end of the trial he told me Thomas is good enough to play for England or Mexico but if he chooses Mexico he could become the best number 10 they've had in over 20 years! (The agent is Mexican but lives in the UK).
Agent wants to sign a long term agreement and place him in a top Mexican club for a year to develop him and let him grow physically and bring him back to Europe next summer.
I won't name the clubs he has mentioned taking him to yet because it's too soon and anything can happen in football but let's just say the names mentioned blow your mind away!
I'm not talking Barcelona/Madrid. I'm talking the kind of incredible clubs with a reputation for developing young players and then sell them to clubs like that.
Should be able to tell you which club Thomas will play for in Mexico next week. The agent has told me but I want to see it signed and sealed before talking in a public space.
Agent can't believe Thomas hasn't been picked up by a professional academy already. I think he thinks he's won the lottery lol. Expects Thomas to be representing Mexico at U17 level within 18 months.Comment
