Not exactly a traditional route to take coming from Europe, to South America and back but hopefully it works out for the best and it's definitely a better option than lower league football!

He's no super agent like Mendes but he has professional players on his books and he believes in Thomas. That means a lot.

I think he will work harder than anyone I've met before now to give Thomas every opportunity to become a successful professional player.

If Thomas does his part then I believe he has every chance to achieve everything the agent says he can achieve,

When we first found out about the Celtic trial a few weeks ago I told Thomas not to worry about impressing Celtic, just make sure you impress the agent.

Celtic is just one opportunity but if the agent likes you it opens many opportunities.

            That's exactly what's happened.

The agent did everything he promised he would do so I've no reason not to believe in him.

I understand your concern but I think you are wrong in this case.

The agent doesn't earn anything until Thomas signs his first contract and when that happens I'm sure he will have earned it.

Well we've never lived in Europe since Thomas was born, he's learned all his football in Mexico which is North America, not South America.

For me it makes complete sense for him to stay in Mexico one year longer and get his first taste of professional football there.

Also, although I'm English and would be extremely proud if my son played for England, I think he has a much greater chance of representing Mexico simply because they play more international football, it's taken more seriously and he learned his football there.

From a marketing point of view his story will appeal to the Mexican public and his profile will be much higher when presented to European clubs if he's coming from a top club in Mexico rather than amateur football in Mexico.

Ah okay for some reason with the Celtic link I assumed you were in the UK and the Mexican routes were the reason for a venture back that way.

I always call Mexico, 'South America' pisses my Mexican friends off no end but it's a genuine mistake I guess my time in the southern states as well the cultural likeness with South American countries draws me to associate it with the term South.

Not at all, I don't take your comments that way. I understand your points and I'll be reading the contract very carefully before signing anything.

But I've spent time speaking with the agent and he's done everything he said he would do and said all the right things.

I have a lot of confidence in him and I like him but it doesn't mean I won't read the small print and watch out for the kind of concerns you raise.

Lol, I'm not even Mexican and it gets up my goat. Hopefully I'll apply for and get citizenship this year. Need to learn the national anthem first though!

Several clubs in Europe are specifically looking for Mexicans with European passports to add to their academies.

That's why the agent was asking around for players in Mexico with European passports and how he found Thomas.

We happened to be coming over to England already for my brothers wedding so it was a no brainer for the agent to get him a trial while we are here.

You need a bit of luck in Football!

Get an independent lawyer to read any contract presented by the agent.

Surely it would be better for him to learn his trade in Mexico, get a pro contract, play games and earn a reputation as a player. If he's good, clubs will want to sign him. The danger of getting into an academy over here, is they are packed with promising players, the clubs don't give a **** about them. It's a sausage factory. Too many drop by the wayside. The money is so big, few youngsters get an opportunity in the first team.

Hope it all goes well for the lad.
