in the hole, or wide left

we were supposedly after him for 3 seasons under houllier and then he lost his way at ajax

still only young, but not what we need at the moment (which is patience imo)

2016: GOAL Real Madrid 0-2 Lyon
Lyon are the only side with a 100% record in the tournament and they look good for keeping it as Florent Malouda touches in a flighted Juninho Penambucano free-kick.

2015: Manchester United are getting closer to scoring but a Ryan Giggs free-kick - after a shocking tackle by Bobo Balde on Paul Scholes - is deflected wide and Wayne Rooney shoots narrowly off target.

                2013: GOAL Lille 1-0 Anderlecht
Lille break through against Anderlecht with a strike from Peter Odemwingie.

2012: GOAL Steaua Bucuresti 0-1 Dynamo Kiev
Romanian Florin Cernat scores against his former club.

2011: Arsenal are pressing with a couple of quick corners but nothing comes from them.

2010: It is that man again for Lyon. John Carew is proving unplayable and another surging run ends with a well-timed Roberto Carlos tackle, otherwise Iker Casillas could have been back in action again.

2005: Up at Celtic Park it is still Manchester United who are dominating the action. Visiting keeper Edwin van der Sar should have gone up to Glasgow with a good book to read!

2003: Lyon's Norwegian striker John Carew is causing havoc in the Real Madrid defence. He plays in Tiago who sees his shot saved by Iker Casillas.

2002: GOAL Benfica 2-0 FC Copenhagen
Fabrizio Miccoli doubles Benfica's advantage following a cushioned lay-off from Nuno Gomes and it looks like the best the Danes can hope for now is a place in the Uefa Cup.

2000: GOAL Benfica 1-0 FC Copenhagen
FC Copenhagen have lost both their away games so far this campaign and they could be heading that way again as Bastos Leo gives Benfica the lead after a neat passing move.

1957: Arsenal hit the woodowrk. Alex Hleb dances in off the right touchline, exchanges passes with Cesc Fabregas on the edge of the area and cracks a shot on goal through a crowd that rebounds with a clatter of the bar.

1956: GOAL Real Madrid 0-1 Lyon
Fabio Cannavaro makes a hash of a tackle on John Carew who powers in on goal, holds off two more defenders and fires into the bottom corner.

1955: Mathieu Bodmer lines up a free-kick for Lille but rifles it over the Anderlecht bar.

1953: Manchester United have started the better at Celtic Park but there have been no chances of note between the leaders of the SPL and the Premiership.

1951: Better news for Arsenal fans is that Hamburg are the worst team in the Champions League this season and have won just once in their last 21 matches.

1950: Every time Arsenal have fallen behind at home in the Premiership they have failed to win. Not a great omen for Gunners fans.

                1949: GOAL Arsenal 0-1 Hamburg
They are celebrating at the Emirates - in the away end. Rafael van der Vaart cuts on to his weaker right foot and absolutely hammers the ball beyond Jens Lehmann from outside the area..

1946: After that false start we are definitely all up and running in the evenings seven matches.

1945: We are up and running - at least we are at the Emirates. The crowd are still giving a rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Celtic Park and a goal net is being fixed at the Bernabeu.

                1919: FULL-TIME CSKA Moscow 0-2 FC Porto
The early match in Moscow is over and it is not good news for Arsenal fans with Porto winning with goals in each half from Ricardo Quaresma and Lucho Gonzalez.

That means Porto jump to the top of Group F and puts pressure on the Gunners for their match against Hamburg. Arsene Wenger's side can draw level on 10 points with the Portuguese if they win before their showdown at the Dragao in the last round of matches.

                  2032: HALF-TIME
That is the whistle for the break at both Celtic Park and the Emirates.

2026: At the Emirates, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking seriously frustrated as his team struggle to break down Hamburg.

2025: While all those goals are going in there is almost a first of the night at Celtic Park and it is the hosts who threaten for the first time, Thomas Gravesen flashing a header across goal from Maciej Zurawski's cross.

2024: GOAL Benfica 3-0 FC Copenhagen
While Real and Anderlecht are pulling themselves back into proceedings elsewhere, Fabrizio Miccoli gets his second of the night and there is one game all wrapped up.

                  2023: GOAL Lille 1-1 Anderlecht
Mbo Mpenza draws Anderlecht level in France.

2023: GOAL Real Madrid 1-2 Lyon
Hope for Real Madrid. Mahamadou Diarra scores against his former club after Rudd van Nistelrooy heads a Jose Antonio Reyes back across goal into the midfielder's path.

2022: Bobo Balde loses possession to Cristiano Ronaldo but after a clean run in on goal the Portuguese hot stepper cannot beat Artur Boruc.

2020: The ball's bobbling around the Hamburg box but it just will not drop for a man in a red shirt. The men in blue - Hamburg - scramble the ball clear.

2019: Real Madrid look for an immediate response but Gregory Coupet is down well to save from a driven Jose Antonio Reyes shot. Arsenal could do with the sort of direct approach shown by their former player.

2018: GOAL AEK Athens 1-0 AC Milan
AEK won their first ever Champions League group match last time out and they could make it two after Julio Cesar gives the Greeks the lead.

2017: That will keep Arsenal on their toes. They carelessly lose possession and Mehdi Mahdavikia fires over the bar from outside the box on the right-hand side.

2016: GOAL Real Madrid 0-2 Lyon
Lyon are the only side with a 100% record in the tournament and they look good for keeping it as Florent Malouda touches in a flighted Juninho Penambucano free-kick.

Don't laugh too loud - yet!

2055: After the good news for the Gunners comes the bad. Thierry Henry is booked and will miss the crucial final group game against Porto away from home.

                        2054: GOAL Arsenal 1-1 Hamburg
A neat passing move from Arsenal results in a goal. The hosts slice through Hamburg as Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas exchange passes and the Dutchman finishes with a slide-rule, side-footed shot beyond the keeper.

2053: A terrible free-kick from Roberto Carlos but it almost ends in a goal. After that regular run-up round the block, the Brazilian drags his effort wide of the target into the path of Sergio Ramso, but his snap effort on goal is saved.

2050: At Celtic Thomas Gravesen sees his shot saved on the line by Edwin van der Sar. In north London Thierry Henry sees his free-kick curl into the side-netting.

                        2048: GOAL Lille 2-2 Anderlecht
Well, that did not last long! Mbo Mpenza bags his second of the night and it's another fine finish from the Belgian, clipped over the advancing Tony Sylva after the home defence commit the cardinal sin of going to sleep after going in front.

                        2047: GOAL Lille 2-1 Anderlecht
The French are back in front with a goal from Nicolas Fauverge. After his first shot is blocked and bounces back to him he makes no mistake second time around hammering a half volley high into the net.

2045: The action resumes around the grounds and Celtic have made some changes. Shaun Maloney and Jiri Jarosik come on for Evander Sno and Maciej Zurawski.

2111: If it stays that way in Romania, Steaua Bucuresti will be through to the Uefa Cup.

2110: GOAL Steaua Bucuresti 1-1 Dynamo Kiev
Thank goodness, no more talk of healthcare and haircuts as there is a goal to report. Nicolae Dica scores for Steaua against Dynamo - his third strike this season against the Ukrainians.

2109: Arsenal's problem at home has come from teams sitting back, but it does not seem as if that is in Hamburg's make-up as they bring on Serbian striker Danijel Ljuboja who wins the 'Worst Haircut of the Night Award'. Closely cropped with not one, not two, but three peroxide stripes running through it.

2105: Gabriel Heinze elbows Jiri Jarosik and the Czech midfielder needs treatment for a cut lip. Good news for the Celtic man is that happily married people are supposed to recover quicker from cuts, according to recent research. He will be receiving some TLC from the better half Veronika tonight.

2102: Raul releases Robinho inside the Lyon box but Real Madrid's diminuitive Brazilian is guilty of a bad miss.

2059: Cristiano Ronaldo skips forward and weaves through a handful of striped shirts but then his pass to Ryan Giggs is too heavy and a chance goes begging for Manchester United.

2123: GOAL Celtic 0-1 Manchester United
Celtic Park explodes in delight as Shunsuke Nakamura whips a quite brilliant beyond Edwin van der Sar from 35 yards. The Japanese midfielder did it at Old Trafford and he has done it again.

2122: Time ticks down to the last 10 minutes and all three British teams in action are looking for what could prove a crucial goal.

2120: Cristiano Ronaldo's shot is deflected behind by Lee Naylor. From the corner Nemanja Vidic should have done better with a header.

2117: Cesc Fabregas chances his arm from distance. Initially it looks as if his shot will go well over the bar but it spins down and hits the woodwork.

2115: "Theo, Theo, Theo!" Arsenal fans delight at the sight of Theo Walcott coming on for Freddie Ljungberg as Arsene Weger tries to make a telling change with Emmanuel Adebayor having earlier replaced Robin van Persie.

2114: And Arsenal are still struggling to make the break through against Hamburg as Thierry Henry sees a snap shot saved.

2113: Celtic are coming back into the game at Manchester United - but both teams are struggling to open up the opposition.

2112: Real are struggling to break down Lyon.
