But, that was just a check to take out the player, no challenge for the ball.

Just watched it again and yes it was the correct decision. The run was toward the player and not the ball, plus Zinchenko had his arm raised which is also a foul when shoulder charging.

The ball was well past him and the player would have been in. Also he only has eyes for the player, doesn't look for the ball at all, it's a clear foul.
