I'm so happy for Switzerland after they missed their penalty. A great result!

I don’t understand the comparison to Messi at all, two completely different type of players. Mbappé reminds me more of Ronaldo (the Brazilian) than Messi.

Just seen the still of the save on the BBC...how is the keeper that far of his line without stepping out before the kick?? Altho I imagine VAR check that, so can't complain.

I agree but who said he would?

He’s been lauded since he was a kid and turned up on the scene at 17. He’s a good player but the pressure on him to perform is way over the top.

Definitely a good days entertainment from the euros. It’s been an entertaining tournament overall so far, and it’s fantastic to be watching football with fans again.

Think Mbappe could be a different level under Klopp... but he has been underwhelming in this tournament

Don't want to speak for Fab, but I think the Messi comparison is more to do with the standing of elite footballers in the game as opposed to similarity of play. At least in my case.
For too long, Messi and Dickface have operated on a level above the other very good footballers, and nobody else has really stepped up to take the throne so to speak. I think its fair to say, many people regarded Mbappe as the one to do that.
He doesn't have anywhere near the finishing or vision of Messi in general play, or the presence of Dickface, but he hasn't brought his own qualities to bear both at the pointy end of the CL and this tournament in the way people hoped.
He should move on and develop, and that's either gonna happen now or next year.

                              I agree with that 100%

I wasn't comparing him to Messi ability wise, but as you correctly say, as the supposed next elite footballer to follow in their steps. He's 22 now, his blistering pace should be causing massive problems and his youth should give him a fearlessness in front of goal. Underwhelming tournament from him without much of a hint of anything above OK really.

Aye...that's the thing, still very young and everyone can have their average moments, but there's still so much that could be worked with there.
With the right attacking setup, he could have a devastating impact, but I just cannot see us ever being in alignment with that wage structure. Transfer fee is not insurmountable IMO, in a regular non-Covid transfer market with strategic sales, but that wage demand and subsequent knockon effect is way too much.
I honestly don't think we've ever been more than negotiation whitenoise with this lad.
