That was one of the last games to have it wasn’t it? An absolute shocker of a final.

Yeah the back pass rule was introduced in the Olympics football tournament just a few weeks after Euro 92.

I remember the commentary chat all throughout Euro 92 was all about how the rule change was going to take alot of getting
used to for goalies and defenders.

Genuinely, not taking the piss. Who are the 4 or 5 top players? I know Robertson runs around a lot, but he's still only one player.

You are taking the piss, but I’ll bite. Tierney, Mctominay, McGinn all playing well at the top level. Even though he plays for Utd you can see that McTominay is class. Got a way to go but a decent player. Tiernay was probably Arsenals best player last season, McGinn is always a top performer at Villa. Christie is a great player at Celtic though not in the best of form. Billy Gilmour is a huge talent but only 19.

Armstrong, Fraser, Adams all solid PL performers. I’m not saying we are world beaters but there is a foundation of decent top quality young players.

Anyway, I’m sure you’ll fire back that I’m talking ****e but that’s the way I see it.

Not really sure why you think I'd try to antagonise. I really don't care about international football. Fair enough, I think we have a different definition of 'top' players then. Hardly any of those guys have even played CL football or competed for anything.

I’d love to have some Irish players at that level - it’s mad how generations can change. When I was growing up Ireland had multiple players are United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Villa etc who were the biggest clubs in England. Now we have a few lads at Sheffield United

I think Scotland have a decent side, as Buzzo says some solid PL players, for me the big issue is the lack of a serious goal scoring threat, the two guys who started up front looked poor to me, Adams looked better when he came on but I think they are going to struggle for goals. If they could have got one goal back it would have made the game interesting but it never felt like the Czechs were under any pressure.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

In the 80's and 90's the top teams in England: Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Arsenal etc all had English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish players in their sides and that makes a big difference. With the odd exception England are the only side with significant numbers of players at the top clubs

I thought Scotland were poor yesterday. Their threat came from sheeer passion and force of will more than technical ability imo. Which is to be expected in many ways.

That said, if they'd scored any of their chances, we might be talking about a great result this morning. It doesn't matter how you win. Getting the points is all that matters.

I can't see them getting a result against England unless they really raise their energy levels to new heights. Get in amongst it, disrupt and maybe score a Pickford Howler.

Croatia were bad against England. Can they be that bad again against Scotland? I'd be surprised. It'll be a must win for them and they should be able to control that game.
                      Oh I don't know.

It isn't IMO a great England side, they are expected to win and have the pressure or expectation of their own fans as well as the rivalry issue. If Scotland can keep it tight they might be able to frustrate and make it difficult for England and pressure them into mistakes.

Technically, it's maybe one of the best England teams ever. Some seriously top class players in there, defence aside.

The bigger weakness is the manager I think. He should be doing much better with the tools he has.

Until maybe 2 years ago, we were really, really bad. I’m definitely surprised we’ve improved enough to be in a tournament. But the overall levels of the players we have picked from has improved, there have been games where we have played well. Yesterday was not one of them.

We looked nervous yesterday. And reverted to some of that poor form. I don’t see us getting a result against England, I hope Teirney is fit, he makes a huge difference. And I hope Clarke doesn’t play Dykes.

Ironically we have beaten the Czechs three times in the last few years. But suffered a bit of stage fright yesterday, and the perennial problem of not having a decent centre forward.

Fair enough. I’m hardly shouting from the roof tops as to how amazing we are You don’t have to play CL to be a decent player though
